Audi connect will be introduced into the local market with the imminent arrival of the new Audi A4 which is due in October. The technology brings real-time online connectivity to the driving experience with a host of features linking the car, driver and environment via the smartphone. With completely integrated in-car connectivity, the new Audi A4 becomes a digitally connected hub for the driver.

Audi connect takes the comfort and enjoyment of driving the new Audi A4 to a whole new level, by providing a range of infotainment, entertainment, remote safety and service functions. The technology focuses on integrating the structures that use online connectivity with the vehicle, to provide real-time information and multiple digital functions. This includes delivering internet services to the car via an embedded sim (installed directly into the vehicle) and used through the myAudi app. When inside the vehicle, the Audi MMI (multimedia interface) and Audi virtual cockpit becomes the mechanic of use.

myAudi app is the central nervous system for Audi connect and allows digital access to the vehicle, anywhere and at any time. It is through this point that the driver can access important vehicle information, manage data and configure and set up certain services. Once activated, the app connects the vehicle with the driver’s everyday life. At any time and from anywhere, the driver will be able to call up real-time information about the vehicle and keep an eye on the fuel level, range, service appointments, warning messages and other functions.

A few of the infotainment and Car2X services of Audi connect will include:

Infotainment services will offer real-time information for navigation and infotainment. Live and integrated Google Earth navigation and traffic information allow the driver to easily plan trips through the myAudi app and send destinations and routes directly to the vehicle. Live information around points of interests, traffic information and weather updates are also included.

Safety and services features will support the driver in the event of damage, breakdown or minor accidents. Notification of when a service is due is also integrated into the functionality.

Security & Convenience services will include remote functions (model-dependent) that network the vehicle with the smartphone. This will allow the vehicle to be protected against unauthorised access, giving the driver control of selected vehicle functions by conveniently using the myAudi app. A vehicle status report for information like the oil or fuel levels, mileage or service intervals are easily viewed on the smartphone.

As the world becomes more and more connected, drivers need to be connected to more than just the road in front of them. Audi connect aims to save time, relieve the driver of unnecessary stress and enable a more relaxed and safe driving experience.

As part of the brand’s approach towards digitalisation and innovation, Audi believes that the introduction of Audi connect and its app-driven functionality, will turn the new Audi A4 into a constant connection hub while effortlessly integrating with the customers’ digital lives. This makes for the highest possible safety and comfort with the latest cross-linking technology and a suite of infotainment options.

Customers can look forward to Audi connect rolling out across the Audi model range from quarter four this year as part of a model year change to the product range, with the exception of the Audi Q2, TT and R8.

All new Audi vehicles are sold with the Audi Freeway Plan (AFP) which includes service and maintenance cover for the first five years and/or 100 000 kilometres (whichever occurs first). With an AFP extension, Audi vehicles are then covered for an extended period of up 10 years and/or 300 000 kilometres. As a further allowance to our customers during these uncertain times, Audi has increased their efforts of support within the AFP and AFP extension contracts.

The Audi Freeway Plan and Freeway Plan extension will continue its offering of peace-of-mind motoring by extending any contracts expiring between the period: 27 March - 30 June 2020 (both days inclusive), by including a complimentary and additional three months to the plan.

The extension of support is based on a period of time (three months from date of expiry within the prescribed period) and is not based on the mileage perimeters of the vehicle. As a result of the extended and phased approach to the South African National Lock-down timing, Audi hopes that this additional period of support will bring some relief, convenience and ease to our customers and Audi drivers during this time.

In addition to this, any services needed to be performed as part of the time and/or mileage intervals included in the Audi Freeway Plan and Freeway Plan extension parameters, will be granted a grace period of 1 month and/or 1,500 kilometres. Audi has introduced a convenient, online tool which provides a cost estimate to Audi owners who are planning on extending their Audi Freeway Plan (AFP) through a quick and easy process. The new AFP online calculator allows consumers to input their current vehicle details and select a desired service and/or maintenance cover option according to time or mileage perimeters.

The online system will generate a simple cost estimate to the AFP extension request in an effort to guide the consumer's purchase consideration without the need to visit or call an Audi Dealership. The Audi Freeway Plan Extension is designed to cover scheduled services and maintenance (or just scheduled services) for up to 10 years or 300 000 kilometres. Audi owners can decide which time or mileage option suits them best, to ensure long-term value and care for their vehicle.

Extending the Audi Freeway plan gives Audi owners immediate, convenient coverage, with no waiting time or period of uncertainty. Owners can benefit from peace-of-mind, knowing that their vehicles are formally covered for scheduled services, with no hidden costs, and protected from any inflation on Audi Genuine Parts pricing. Audi Freeway Plans place no limits on claim value and contracts can easily be extended within the standard plan period, subject to an Audi 80-point vehicle inspection by a franchised Audi Dealership.

The Audi Freeway Plan extension is a stand-alone plan which has been created specifically for Audi vehicles. The AFP covers services, wear and tear items and certain repairs after a specialised Audi Dealer assessment. Sascha has a long-standing career with Audi. In his previous role, he was the Sales Director for the Region Africa and Middle/Near East, based at Audi’s headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany and has therefore been very involved in the Audi South Africa business for the past two years.

Professionally, Sascha holds an MBA from Sheffield Hallam University and is a qualified Mechanical Engineer. He started his career with Audi in 1997 within International Sales and Marketing Controlling, being responsible for Pricing in the markets of South-East Asia and later for the United States, Canada and Mexico. Sascha has held various positions within the brand since then. His diverse and extensive experience over the past 23 years comprise of heading up project work within Sales and Marketing; working with a variety of Audi markets and importers such as France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Ireland; as well as emerging markets of India and Vietnam. He has also held various positions in both Sales and Aftersales and has enjoyed exposure in managing many global cross-functional projects. A significant mention was his time in China between 2009 and 2012, when he headed up the Audi Sales department at FAW-VW while positively steering the organisation’s sales performance which made China become the greatest, single market for Audi globally.

The plant in Ingolstadt is open to visitors in virtual form. Anyone interested can book an interactive tour online at www.audi.stream and experience Audi at home. There are currently no factory tours taking place at the Audi site in Ingolstadt and for many guests who would normally travel from all over the world to see Audi production live, the brand is offering an online alternative with AudiStream. Those who are interested can participate in a virtual tour through the Audi plant in Ingolstadt from home on the display of their computer or mobile device.

Experienced Tour Guides narrate the online tour live from a studio and explain the production processes. With the use of video sequences, participants learn how an Audi is made, from the first production steps in the press shop to the final manual operations during final assembly. Among other things, the processes in the body shop of the Audi A3 and videos from the Audi A4 assembly line can be seen. In addition, the Tour Guides present technical highlights from the Audi world and answer questions in dialogue with participants.

With their knowledge acquired from numerous tours at the Audi plant in Ingolstadt, the Tour Guides determine the route for the roughly 20-minute livestream according to the individual interests of the international participants. Users select the desired stream and a suitable time slot in German or English online at www.audi.stream. The offer is free of charge; fees may be charged for Internet access, however, depending on the selected provider.

With AudiStream, Audi is the first manufacturer to offer online discovery tours. The stream "Audi live at the Ingolstadt factory" has been available since November 2019. Audi South Africa has launched a compact SUV in coupé shape to its model range: the Audi Q3 Sportback. The new model combines the strong presence and everyday convenience of an SUV, with the sporty elegance and agile handling of a coupé. This makes it the first compact crossover of the Audi brand. The all-new Q3 Sportback enters the Q3 model range as the halo and design vehicle, emphasising a sporty, practical and elegant positioning in the A-CUV segment of the premium passenger car market. Low roofline and a muscular body: the design.

The Audi Q3 Sportback is a car for customers who appreciate a sporty character as much as an expressive design. The compact SUV coupé stands for strength and precision to an equal degree, and reflects this in all design details. The black grille of the octagonal Singleframe is strongly three-dimensional in design, and this makes it particularly sporty. The same applies for the trapezoidal air inlets and the expressive bumper with its flat blade. The coupé-like passenger cabin acts as a contrast to the distinctive attachments, which are painted in contrasting silver and thus emphasize the SUV character. The low roofline gives way to flat D-pillars and ends in a roof edge spoiler. As a result, the Audi Q3 Sportback appears much longer than its sister model Q3. In addition, the SUV-coupé is almost three centimetres flatter and thus has a sportier appearance.

Above the wheels, strong contours hint at the quattro drive, which is available on the Q3 Sportback 40 TFSI model. The rear with its sporty bumper is every bit as powerful as the front of the Audi Q3 Sportback and many light and shadow effects arise on its structure. The low window, flanked by aero trims, and the sporty bumper, which takes up the look of the air inlets, emphasize the width of the Audi Q3 Sportback. The reversing lights contribute to this as well: They run inwards in a tapered shape, just like the flat headlights. Audi supplies lighting options in two versions on this model. LED headlights and rear lights are standard on the vehicle with an option to upgrade to Matrix LED technology, whose adaptive high beam intelligently illuminates the road as best suits the driving situation.

A total of ten exterior colours are available for the Audi Q3 Sportback, including the new metallic paint colour called Dew Silver, exclusive to the Q3 Sportback. Audi S line exterior trimmings are standard across the range, this includes prominent aluminium elements around the grille, bumper and air inlets. The standard wheel size is 18 inch with an option to upgrade to a larger 19 inch for a further advanced look. Audi also offers the optional Black Styling Package which ensures an even more dynamic appearance as it makes the body appear even sportier thanks to the inclusion of dark surfaces on the bumpers. It also emphasizes the Singleframe, the rear diffuser and the trim strips on the side windows in gloss black.

Sporty on and off the road: the suspension The Audi Q3 Sportback offers driving fun on various terrains. In the urban city, on long-haul road trips, or on easy off-road terrain – the compact crossover is a dynamic all-around performer. It features progressive steering as standard, whose gear ratio becomes increasingly direct as the steering angle increases, along with the sport suspension (also standard) coming into play. Depending on the driving situation, road condition and personal preferences, the driver can vary the car’s characteristics via the standard dynamic handling system, Audi drive select. In six profiles, from markedly comfortable, highly efficient through to sporty and off-road mode. TFSI engines, S tronic, quattro: the drive For the Audi Q3 Sportback, two petrol engines are available on offer in South Africa. These two engine options are also offered across the Audi Q3 model range.

The 1.4 TFSI in the Q3 Sportback 35 TFSI delivers 110 kW and 250 Nm of torque from a four-cylinder direct injection unit with turbocharging. It uses a six speed S tronic transmission and produces a 0-100 km claim of 9.3 seconds. The Q3 Sportback 40 TFSI quattro S line is fitted with a 2.0 TFSI engine producing 132 kW, 320 Nm of torque and a seven speed S tronic transmission which allows it to sprint from 0-100km/h in 7.8 seconds. This engine is an additional offering within the Q3 model range since its launch in August 2019. In this model, the quattro all-wheel drive takes on the job of force transmission as standard and thereby makes for a more dynamic and stable drive. Variable comfort: Interior and space concept.

The Audi Q3 Sportback is one of the most spacious models in its segment. The dimensions emphasize its sporty character: It is 4,500 mm long, 1,556 mm tall (without roof antenna), and 1,843 mm wide. This makes the SUV coupé 16 mm longer, 29 mm flatter, and 6 mm thinner than the Audi Q3. The wheelbase is exactly 2,680 mm in both models and forms the basis for a generous space offering.

The sporty design of the exterior is continued in the interior of the Audi Q3 Sportback. The accentuated horizontal lines make the interior appear spacious and roomy. The robust design-look of the door panels reflects the strong character of the SUV coupé. The Audi Q3 Sportback has been designed as a fully-fledged five seater. It offers comfortable entry, a good overview and a sporty seat position for the driver and front passenger. The rear seats offer space for three people. They can be moved 130 mm longitudinally as standard; their backrests are divided into three sections, and their inclination can be adjusted in seven stages. The volume of the luggage compartment ranges from 530 l to 1,400 l. The loading floor can be adjusted to two levels, and the rear shelf is located beneath it. The storage and luggage compartment package is a further available option. It includes nets on the backs of the front seats, a compartment under the front passenger seat, a luggage compartment net, and LED spotlights in the tailgate.

As part of the optionally selected Comfort Package, Audi will deliver an electric tailgate that can also be opened and closed with a foot motion. Included in this package, the front seats – electrically adjustable and heated – offer a sporty position and a high level of comfort. Depending on the equipment, there are sport seats with contrasting stitching and coloured stripes (orange or grey steel are options for colour choices) along the side panels. The seat upholstery is available in a combination of leather and leatherette as standard. Optionally available is also Alcantara upholstery. In addition, Alcantara surfaces on the instrument panel and the armrests emphasize the progressive design philosophy. In the interior S line package, the seat backrests feature the embossed S logo, and the sport leather steering wheel bears a corresponding emblem. The pedal caps and footrest are made of stainless steel. Inlays in dark aluminium and door sill trims with illuminated aluminium inlays emphasize the sporty look.

In the dark, two lighting packages highlight specific areas of the interior – the ambient lighting package (standard) and the multi-colour contour/ambient lighting package (optional extra). With the indirectly, extensively radiated ambient lighting, door panels and centre tunnels look as if they are floating, whereas the focused contour lighting traces the concise design lines of the interior. The top-of-the-range version can be adjusted in 30 colours, and also backlights the quattro logo on the passenger side of the dashboard as well as the Audi rings in front-wheel-drive models. A further attractive optional piece of equipment includes the two-piece panoramic glass sunroof when added to the vehicle, creates an advanced sportier appearance. The standard two-zone deluxe automatic air conditioning offers separate temperature distribution for the driver and front-passenger sides and for the rear. Digital world: Displays and operation.

The control and display concept of the Audi Q3 Sportback is progressive, logical and easy to understand. It also shows how Audi is pushing ahead with the digitalization of its new models: A digital instrument cluster (digital cockpit) with an 8.8-inch screen diagonal, which the driver operates via the multifunction steering wheel, comes with the integrated MMI touch radio plus as standard. Customers have the option of replacing the digital instrument cluster with the Audi virtual cockpit, which allows them to switch between many information levels and multiple views. In the top-of-the-line system which part of the Technology Package, the Audi virtual cockpit plus comes with a 12.3-inch screen diagonal along with MMI Navigation Plus. The driver can select from three different displays in the MMI, including a particularly dynamic layout with red graphics elements. The size of the circular instruments and the infotainment content can be varied by means of the View button on the multifunction steering wheel. When a function is selected on the touch display, it emits acoustic feedback. Just like in the brand’s full-size class models, it is surrounded by wide, high-gloss black trim. Together with the air-conditioning control unit located beneath it, the display is ergonomically tilted 10° towards the driver.

The flat menu structure is complemented by a control unit that uses natural language and can also understand free-form communication. Entering a navigation destination and the MMI search are based on free-form text input. The standard Audi smartphone interface ensures interconnectivity between the car and smartphone. This integrates Android and iOS cell phones into the on-board infotainment system. The content of the smartphone is shown on the MMI display via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and no cables are required if the top infotainment system (MMI navigation plus) is used with an iPhone. The optional Audi phone box and the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with virtual 3D sound complete this comprehensive offer. Outstanding in any situation: the assist systems.

In the Audi Q3 Sportback, a few systems are used for safety. These include the lane departure warning and the lane change warning. While the former helps the driver to remain in the lane, the latter points out critical situations when changing lanes, such as if there is a vehicle in the blind spot. The Audi pre sense basic system outputs a visual, acoustic and haptic warning to the driver in the case of a collision. In an emergency, it causes full braking and initiates the Audi pre sense basic safety measures.

Ultra-modern optional extra systems such as the 360 degree cameras offer assistance with parking and maneuvering. They show the direct surroundings of the SUV coupé on the MMI display, and the driver can choose from several perspectives. The park assist automatically guides the car into and out of parking spaces. If, for example, the driver wants to back out of an entrance, the rear cross traffic assist warns about approaching vehicles that the system classifies as critical. Rear parking aid is available as a standard feature on this model. Audi also offers the Parking package which bundles a few optional parking features together, this includes park assist, 360 degree cameras and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors which can be folded, heated and auto-dimmed. His diverse and extensive experience over the past 23 years comprise of heading up project work within Sales and Marketing; working with a variety of Audi markets and importers such as France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Ireland; as well as emerging markets of India and Vietnam. He has also held various positions in both Sales and Aftersales and has enjoyed exposure in managing many global cross-functional projects. A significant mention was his time in China between 2009 and 2012, when he headed up the Audi Sales department at FAW-VW while positively steering the organisation’s sales performance which made China become the greatest, single market for Audi globally.

Trevor Hill joined the Audi South Africa on 1 June 2017 and realised a lifelong dream of coming back to his country of birth, to head up the Audi brand after leaving in 1997. During his international assignments, Trevor worked in Germany, Japan, China, South Korea and the Middle East, gaining invaluable experience in the Audi business in these international markets.

After three successful years at the helm, Trevor’s contract comes to an end on 31 August after which he will return to Audi’s global headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany. Trevor will be taking up a new position within the Audi Sport division from 1 September 2020. Trevor has been instrumental in leading the Audi Brand in South Africa over the past three years through key brand and business successes. Despite the challenges faced in the premium automotive market, Trevor has expertly navigated the brand to maintain a strong market share and Dealer profitability performance.

During his tenure, the Audi brand image credentials have made good stride in terms of recognition within the premium segment and he has also been responsible for prioritising the introduction of key products to the local market in order to refresh Audi’s model range. Trevor also re-introduced Audi’s participation in local motorsport where the brand had subsequently won the Global Touring Cars (GTC) Championship for Drivers and Manufacturers in 2017 and 2018. “Trevor has always been an excellent team player and an ardent ambassador to the Audi brand,” said Mike Glendinning, Sales and Marketing Director for Volkswagen Group South Africa.

In the past week, Motus donated a total of 16 vehicles to five different charities across the country through local importer subsidiaries, Hyundai Automotive South Africa and KIA Motors South Africa, with additional donations by Beekman Canopies. The vehicles will be used to feed South Africa during the extended national lockdown.

GIFT OF THE GIVERS

Thanks to Hyundai Automotive South Africa, Gift of the Givers received two Hyundai H100 light commercial vehicles (‘bakkies’) as well as a Hyundai H-1 Bus. The organisation, started by Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman in 1992 and today considered the largest disaster relief group of African origin, will be using the vehicles to accomplish their mission of providing nutritious food to impoverished children and families.

"Gift of the Givers values the generous contribution,” said Dr. Sooliman. “The three [Hyundai] vehicles couldn't have come at a more opportune time to increase our logistical capability in ferrying medical teams, delivering food and transporting essential medical supplies and protective wear to frontline health care workers, the SA Police Service and the general public in all nine provinces in South Africa, including many deeply rural areas.

FOODFORWARD SA

Simultaneously, Hyundai Automotive South Africa also donated three Hyundai H100 light commercial vehicles (‘bakkies’) and two Grand i10 Cargo panel vans to FoodForward SA. The organisation, established in 2009 to address widespread hunger in South Africa, is working with a range of social partners to feed insecure households through its network of registered beneficiary organisations.

According to FoodForward SA’s Managing Director, Andy du Plessis, more than 30 million people in South Africa lived below the poverty line before the impact of Covid-19, and that millions of people, such as informal traders and day-job seekers, were surviving by earning a daily income. Many small businesses were also struggling to stay afloat; the country was in yet another recession - and then the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

"It is safe to assume that the Covid-19 collision will be severe and far reaching, both in the short and long term,” says Du Plessis. "Creating better access to food for the poor is critical now and in the coming months. FoodForward SA is committed to scaling up so that households in vulnerable communities receive proper food provisions, and we thank all our donors for their generosity and for caring enough to make a difference."

SANZAF

In similar spirit, KIA Motors South Africa donated three KIA K2700 light commercial vehicles and three KIA Picanto STARTs to SANZAF to assist the organisation in delivering food and other welfare support services to vulnerable communities.

A Section 18A Public Benefit Organisation, The South African National Zakah Fund directly invested R27 million in education in the previous financial year. In addition, the organisation also counselled and assisted 28,000 people through their welfare support services. Under normal circumstances, more than 40,000 people benefit from their monthly food programmes.

“It is really heart-warming to receive this generous donation,” says Yasmina Francke, CEO of SANZAF. “These vehicles will go a long way to ease the load for our teams working on the ground, particularly in these difficult times when we are delivering door-to-door and practising social distancing. Having extra vehicles in circulation will definitely help us with our distributions in needy communities.”

Adds SANZAF Chairperson, Fayruz Mohamed: “As a nation we are facing a humanitarian crisis that requires a collective effort from government, the private sector and civil society. This is one of those examples where a company has certainly shown heart by doing amazing work in supporting the efforts required to serve the poor and the needy.”

RADA & ASHRAFUL ULOOM

But it’s not only the large, networked organisations that has benefitted: people are at the heart of every community, so when a crisis like the Covid-19 pandemic arises, it’s the people on the ground that will make a real difference in their community. To this end, KIA Motors South Africa also donated a KIA K2700 light commercial vehicle to the Madrassah Ashraful Uloom in Marlboro, Johannesburg, to assist the organisation in delivering food and other essentials to the community of Alexandra and surrounds, as well as a KIA K2700 light commercial vehicle to RADA to assist the organisation in delivering food and other essentials to their various RADA CARE Homes.

Founded in 1995, the Madrassah is a community-based organisation that provides a broad range of services to the community it serves. This includes operating three Madrassahs (Marlboro, Edenvale, Alexandra) and a children’s home, as well as assisting widows, the poor and the needy. In addition, the Madrassah also supports prison services and education through seminars and workshops.

“On behalf of Ashraful Aid, I would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation for the generous donation from Motus,” says Suhail Wadee. “It is with the support of the business community that our aspirations and ambitions are realised. Our ability to respond timeously during crisis makes all the difference. The K2700 will allow us to continue our response during these challenging times.”

RADA – an acronym for rape, alcohol, drug, abuse – is a registered NPO that takes positive, meaningful and effective action to combat these addictions and atrocities so that the world can become a better, healthier and safer place in which all can prosper. They operate a number of programmes and initiatives, including the “Adopt-a-Home” project that provides assistance to existing homes of safety for abused and abandoned children, people with disabilities, the elderly and the homeless through the provision of food, clothing, bedding, books and other basic necessities. The programme currently supports up to ten different homes around Gauteng.

“It is imperative that Covid-19 does not reach our facilities as the elderly, homeless, children and people with ongoing immune deficiencies who are cared for in these homes are all high-risk individuals,” says John-Paul Nobrega, Founder and CEO of RADA. “Without the assistance of KIA and Motus, we would not be able to deliver the quantities of food and other essentials needed for each home. We truly value the support that allows us to feed the less fortunate and assist us in alleviating the immediate and very desperate needs of communities.”

L'AVENIR FARMING COMMUNITY

Mitsubishi Motors SA has partnered with L’Avenir Wine Estate and the Pebbles Project to assist L’Avenir in keeping the farm worker community safe, healthy and nourished during the national lockdown. The Pebbles Project has been enriching the lives of children and families in the Western Cape Winelands since its inception in 2004, and with the help of Mitsubishi Motors, are delivering special food parcels to 56 adults and children in this period. These families also have access to proper healthcare services through Pebbles Project’s mobile clinics. The food parcels cost R150 each, and will feed a family of four twice a day for seven days.

According to Ossip, “Our driving behaviour technology allows us to collect telematics data for each driver on our Vitality Drive programme, making it possible to tailor-make premiums for our warranty product.” This telematics-based warranty cover is a world-first, with up to 100% vehicle servicing discounts for driving well.

CEO of Motus Financial Services Kerry Cassel adds, “We are able to cover a more comprehensive list of critical components, with no limits, due to the data we have collected from operating in the motor industry market for decades. This product encourages good driving with premiums based on a driver’s specific driving profile as well as the unique circumstances of the vehicle compared to a market where premiums are mostly undifferentiated.”

A brand-new Audi model line made its debut in the shape of the A1, having found just over 13 700 South African homes since its launch, the compact hatchback is now ready for round two. Its dynamic design characterizes the new Audi A1 Sportback and is the ideal companion in the urban environment while also being very well suited for longer journeys. With its infotainment and interior features on a par with the full-size class, the A1 Sportback is firmly networked with the digital world. New trim lines and package structures also provide ample opportunity for customization.

Exterior design: Striking with genes of the sporty Ur-quattro

The A1 Sportback has grown significantly in length - with an additional 56 millimetres, it now measures 4.03 metres. At the same time, the width has remained almost the same at 1.74 metres. The new-generation model is only 1.41 metres in height - including aerial, the car is 1.43 metres tall. The wide track and short overhangs provide for a taut, sporty look. The wide, low-placed Singleframe grille and the implied side air inlets dominate the distinctive front. Below the edge of the hood are three flat slits - an homage to the Sport quattro, the brand's rally icon from 1984.

The new A1 Sportback continues its resemblance to the Audi Ur-quattro and Sport quattro when viewed from the side: The wide, flat sloping C-pillar seems to push the car forward even while standing still. The roof contrast line, which is available in two dark colours (black and grey), ends above the C-pillar. This gives the impression that the roof is flatter and the complete car is even lower-slung. All lines on the flanks, from the window edge to the sill, slope upward toward the rear in a wedge shape. The distinctively highlighted wheels and the low shoulder line in between give the A1 Sportback a solid stance on the road.

The distinctive daytime running light graphics of the full-LED lights (standard on 35 and 40 TFSI) echo the dynamic wing shapes from sailing, known as hydrofoils. The design of the shutters for the main light also draws inspiration from sailing. The wing segments on the flanks create an impression of maximum width. A low-set, concentrated look in conjunction with the small rhombus segments in the top section of the headlights provides a sporty appearance.

The dynamic segmentation motif also features in the rear lights to reinforce the instant recognisability of the A1 light graphics. It is encased in the striking 3D geometry of the lens. The seamless light pattern of the graphics in the dark constitutes a remarkable feature of the two-part rear lights.

The new A1 Sportback is available in a choice of ten colours. The roof of the compact model can be optionally finished in a contrasting colour from the A-pillar to the roof edge spoiler.

A sporty character: the Edition #1

The Launch Edition model (known as Edition #1), based on the S line equipment line in Python Yellow paint colour and available from market launch, is particularly distinctive. It impressively showcases the design language of the A1 with numerous contrasts. Large 18-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels and black contrasting roof and exterior mirror housings, set powerful accents to create a sporty look. Borrowing from the legendary Audi Sport quattro, the LED headlights and LED rear lights are dark-tinted. The Audi rings in the Singleframe and the model designation on the back are black, emphasising an increased athletic and trendy appeal.

Freely combinable: the equipment lines

A new feature in the A1 Sportback is the equipment modular lines structure. This provides for a particularly high degree of flexibility for the customer.

Depending on the equipment line - Standard, Advanced or S line - the attachments on the exterior are available in various configurations. With S line equipment, Audi has emphasized the sporty character even more through numerous features. These include larger air inlets, additional sill trims, an elongated slit centrally below the hood with two fins and the larger rear wing. The top-of-the-line engine (Audi A1 45 TFSI) is also recognizable with its striking twin tailpipes.

Audi is additionally affording customers numerous possibilities to select colours and materials accordingly with the Black Styling Package and Contrast Package. The Black Styling Package includes the radiator grille in mate black; grille frame; front air inlet frame; rear diffuser and front spoiler, all in high gloss black. The Contrast Package offers a contrasting roof dome; exterior mirror housing; front spoiler lip and side skirts in Mythos Black Metallic or Manhattan Grey Metallic.

New look: the interior design

"The sportiest interior in the compact class," that was the stated aim of the design. The interior is accordingly driver-focused, with its emotive, customizable design. The eye is drawn in particular to the sporty compact unit of air vent nozzles, hood and the digital instrument cluster. All of the controls and the standard MMI touch display are strongly driver-oriented thus emphasizing the special cockpit character.

The display and the air vent strip on the front passenger side are integrated into an area in black glass look. The optional contour and ambient lighting package brings the interior design to life in the dark if desired through LED light elements in 30 selectable colours.

Various seat and upholstery options are available from standard cloth variations to other sport variants in cloth or leather/leatherette combination. Decorative inlays and accents in the interior of the vehicle provide additional cockpit design enhancements. The inlays are available in black (standard) or the optional slate grey colour. Accents come standard in black with optional colours in silver, yellow and mint.

More space and comfort: the space concept

The new A1 Sportback is much more spacious - making life much more comfortable for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers. Despite the compact exterior dimensions and the sporty roof line, adults in the rear seats still enjoy plenty of head and leg room.

Luggage capacity has increased by 65 litres. Normal capacity is 335 litres; with the rear seats folded down, this increases to 1,090 litres. Loading sill height is a comfortably low 67 centimetres.

Fully digital: operation and display

The new Audi A1 Sportback is fit for the digital future. Even the basic version comes standard with a fully digital instrument cluster with a high-resolution 8.8-inch display. The optional Audi virtual cockpit with an extended range of functions presents comprehensive and diverse information such as animated navigation maps and graphics of some driver assistance systems in the driver's direct field of vision.

Fully connected and always up to date: Infotainment

The infotainment concept in the new A1 Sportback comes from the full-size class. The MMI radio plus comes as standard - it can be operated via the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel and the display in the fully digital instrument cluster. In the top configuration, MMI navigation plus offers a 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen, which blends seamlessly into the black glass-look area. As with a smartphone, all commands are via touch input. The latest generation of voice control further improves the dialog between driver and car.

The optional Audi smartphone interface ensures you are always well connected on board the new A1 Sportback. It integrates iOS and Android smartphones using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into an environment in the MMI programmed specifically for them, and offers two USB interfaces (1x USB-A, 1x USB-C with increased charging current). Another option, the Audi phone box, thus ensures improved reception quality with LTE support and charges the smartphone inductively via wireless charging according to the Qi standard.

Music and acoustics aficionados will be pleased to find a Digital Audio Broadcasting tuner with the Audi sound system and the Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System. The optional B&O system drives eleven speakers with an output of 560 watts. Its 3D effect uses the windshield as a reflecting surface. Customers looking to upgrade their technology on the vehicle, are easily able to specify the Technology Package, which contains the Audi Virtual Cockpit; Audi Smartphone Interface and Audi Sound System for R9,900.

Light and particularly robust: the body

The body of the new Audi A1 Sportback includes components made out of hot-formed steel that form the backbone of the passenger cell. The rigid body and exact fits guarantee sportily precise driving and the absence of intrusive noise on board. With a front area of 2.07 sq. and a drag coefficient of 0.31, the new A1 Sportback offers very little windage.

Powerful and efficient: the engines

Whether running around town or going on a weekend excursion - its powerful engines in particular make driving the new Audi A1 Sportback so much fun. There is a choice of three efficient petrol engines with outputs ranging from 85 kW to 147 kW. Turbocharging, direct injection and a particulate filter are standard. Audi is making a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission available for the 1.0 and 1.5 engines. The exception is the top-of-the-range, 2.0 engine, where a six-speed S tronic transmission shifts gears as standard.

Sporty, poised tuning: the suspension

The axle design of the new Audi A1 Sportback delivers agile handling and a sporty, poised driving experience. The front suspension is a McPherson construction; a compact, lightweight torsion beam axle is used at the rear. Besides the basic suspension, there is an option for a tauter sport suspension. The Dynamic Package, available only on the 30 and 35 TFSI S line models, bundle equipment options to give the A1 Sportback an even sportier trim. This includes a sport suspension, red brake calipers and larger brake discs, a sound actuator and Audi drive select. The Dynamic Package contents come as standard equipment on the top-of-the-range 40 TFSI model.

The brakes of the new A1 Sportback can be precisely metered and provide a responsive, taut pedal feel. The optional hold assist enhances safety on uphill and downhill slopes by preventing the car from rolling after stopping. Wheels are available in sizes from 15 up to 18 inches.

• With the easing of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in South Africa and abroad, expectations are for the domestic new vehicle market and export sales to improve during the second half of the year, but it is anticipated that the new vehicle market could drop back to the levels of 20 years ago

(JOHANNESBURG, South Africa) 29 May 2020. As South Africa prepares to move to Alert Level 3 on the 1st of June, Motus has seen renewed interest in vehicle sales enquiries. Representing 22 Original Equipment Manufactures (OEMs) through over 300 strategically located dealerships, Motus is South Africa’s largest automotive group and undisputed leader in mobility. Its unrivalled footprint across South Africa allows Motus to quickly gauge changes in consumer motoring trends.

“The cost of vehicle ownership has reduced dramatically in just a few months as a side effect of the lockdown as well as global economic factors,” says Osman Arbee, CEO, Motus. “The marked recovery in new and used vehicle enquiries across the Motus network suggests South African buyers intend to make the most of this unprecedented reduction in the cost of vehicle ownership.”

The South Africa motoring market is driven by value and quality. Owners tend to keep their vehicles much longer than the average global buyer. Consequently, local consumers place a lot more emphasis on the cost of ownership and running costs when choosing a new vehicle. Given that a car is often the second most expensive purchase for many South Africans a lot of research is done before making the final purchasing decision.

Based on several factors monitored by Motus the current cost of ownership has seen a reduction of approximately 15% when compared to February 2020. Over the past few months there have been major changes in three critical factors that impact the cost of ownership:

• The prime lending rate has dropped from 9.75% to 7.75%, reducing monthly repayments by approximately 7% (depending on finance structure);
• The cost of fuel has dropped by 23.8%, while the average mileage per vehicle is down by 8.6% as a result of the country-wide lockdown. This means the average fuel spend per vehicle contracted by around 30% in total;
• Maintenance costs are down by at least 9% as a result of lower mileages travelled.

While the current cost of vehicle ownership is the lowest it has been in a number of years, Motus anticipates that the lower mileages travelled will result in people keeping their cars for longer. A significant number of customers have negotiated a ‘payment holiday’ with their banks, and these extended repayment terms will contribute to extending ownership periods. Based on current statistics, the ownership period is anticipated to extend from an average of 42 months to between 45 and 47 months.

In addition, average mileage travelled per customer per year is anticipated to drop from an average of 22,965 km to 18,542 km and in all likelihood will only start increasing once the country has returned to Level 1. Furthermore, its projected that average mileages will continue to remain lower in the months (and even years) to come as many businesses continue with work from home, and make use of virtual meeting alternatives.

“Although movement will increase as the country reopens, most South Africans realise that movement will remain restricted for a long time, which means cost of ownership is likely to remain at these low levels for a similarly long time. It is, in many respects, the perfect time to purchase a new car,” says Arbee.

The A4 represents the core of the Audi brand – after four years in the making, the successful midsize Sedan is now tauter, sportier and more intelligent than before. Its exterior has evolved into Audi’s new design language and the introduction of the large MMI touch display offers the kind of operating experience that customers will be familiar with from their smartphone. Further to this, the new Audi A4 is the brand’s first model to usher in fully integrated connectivity functions with Audi connect, thereby enabling safety and service; security and convenience as well real-time infotainment functions to the driving experience. The engine options now come with a mild-hybrid system (MHEV) which allows for efficiency and comfort from broad-based electrification. This combination of advanced design, new technology, an efficient and connected driving experience, makes the product improvement on the Audi A4 quite a substantial package in the premium B-Sedan segment.

Sporty look: the exterior design The midsize model looks even more dynamic and sophisticated thanks to the sportier design highlights. The Singleframe grille is now broader and flatter; horizontal lines emphasize the width at the front and rear. The side view is defined by the distinctive muscles above the fenders and the lower set shoulder line in between. They form strong contours above the wheels and make the quattro genes outwardly visible.

LED headlights now come standard in the Audi A4 and are available in different variations. The 35 TFSI features low beam, high beam and daytime running lights in LED technology. The 40 TFSI and S4 will feature a higher version of LED including a different daytime running light design and dynamic indicators for the rear; also available optionally is the top-of-the-line Matrix LED headlights with fully automatic high beam.

The equipment line concept is equally new: standard, Advanced and S line are now available for the exterior, not to mention the independent look of the S model with the standard high gloss styling package to accentuate it’s exterior look. Customers can choose from 12 paint colours, including a new Terra Grey colour option. When it comes to the wheel options, 17” size is configured as standard on the entry trimline and a 18” standard wheel size on the Advanced and S line trims. There is an option to upgrade to 19” for a further sportier look. The Audi S4 offers 19” wheels as standard with a choice of three designs.

In the calmly styled interior of the Audi A4 the horizontal lines also convey the overall impression. In the centre of the instrument panel, slightly tilted toward the driver, is the large and new MMI touch display, the control centre for the new operating system. Interior customisation to standard seating is available in a variety of leather/leatherette colour combinations. The S line interior package can be combined freely with the exterior lines and comes with Fine Nappa leather with S embossing. While ambient LED interior lighting is standard, the contour/ambient lighting package adds highlights to the interior in the dark for a very premium finish and is included as part of the Technology Package.

Cutting edge technology and connectivity With its new MMI system, the highly connected Audi A4 offers a user experience similar to a contemporary smartphone. An MMI touch display with acoustic feedback replaces the functions of the previous rotary/pushbutton control on the centre tunnel console. The high-resolution TFT display measures 10.1 inches. Its graphics are deliberately clean and cut-down; the menu structure with its tight hierarchies is tailored to user expectations and facilitates ease of use. The MMI search is based on free text input and returns hits rapidly. The natural-language voice control, another function of the new system, understands many of the phrases used in everyday speech. Audi smartphone interface (which enables Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) is also standard on all models within the range.

The navigation in the Audi A4 is now even more versatile and more user-friendly with the optional Audi Technology Package which now includes MMI navigation plus, MMI touch and the full functionality of Audi connect. As Audi’s first model range to usher in fully integrated connectivity, the Audi connect portfolio includes a host of online services which offer advanced infotainment, navigation and Car-to-X services which take advantage of the swarm intelligence to service, safety and convenience built into the connected A4.

Audi connect takes the comfort, enjoyment and safety of driving the new Audi A4 to a whole new level. The technology focuses on integrating the structures that use online connectivity with the vehicle, to provide real-time information and multiple digital functions. This includes delivering internet services to the car via an embedded sim (installed directly into the vehicle) and used through the myAudi app. When inside the vehicle, the Audi MMI (multimedia interface) and Audi virtual cockpit becomes the mechanic of use.

myAudi app is the central nervous system for Audi connect and allows digital access to the vehicle, anywhere and at any time. It is through this point that the driver can access important vehicle information, manage data and configure and set up certain services. The driver will be able to call up real-time information about the vehicle and keep an eye on the fuel level, range, service appointments, warning messages and other function

The Car2X services of Audi connect will include:

• Safety and service features (licenced for 10 years and standard on the Audi A4) will support the driver in the event of damage, breakdown or minor accidents. This enables an emergency call or roadside assistance directly from the vehicle in order to access emergency towing, ambulance, police or fire brigade support. Notification of when a service is due is also integrated into the functionality and will trigger an automatic prompt to the registered Audi Dealer.
• Security & convenience services (part of the optional Technology Package) will include remote functions (model-dependent) that network the vehicle with the smartphone. This will allow the vehicle to be protected against unauthorised access, giving the driver control of selected vehicle functions by conveniently using the myAudi app. Features include car finder, remote lock/unlock, geo-fencing/speed alert and theft/alarm notification. A vehicle status report for information like the oil or fuel levels, mileage or service intervals are easily viewed on the smartphone as well.

On the other hand, the following infotainment services as part of Audi connect (requires MMI navigation plus as part of the optional Technology Package) will offer real-time information for navigation and infotainment. This includes:

• Live and integrated Google Earth navigation and traffic information allow the driver to easily plan trips through the myAudi app and send destinations and routes directly to the vehicle.
• Live information around points of interests (trading hours, parking availability), traffic information and weather updates are also included.

These features are available through an embedded e-SIM and data is freely available for a period of 3 years. Audi connect, navigation and infotainment all run through the MMI which features a new main unit. The third-generation modular infotainment platform MIB 3 delivers phenomenal computing power. It works with an equally new, spatially separate communication box that bundles all connectivity tasks – such as telephony or the Audi connect services – and incorporates the Wi-Fi hotspot. The optional hardware modules include the Audi phone box and the Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System in the front.

Two instrument cluster variants are available: standard is the analog driver information system with colour display, or the all-digital Audi virtual cockpit plus. The driver can operate the 12.3-inch display with full HD resolution using the multifunction steering wheel with a choice of three views.

The Audi S4 TFSI The 3.0 TFSI offering follows from the previous generation Audi S4. It combines sports car performance with good levels of efficiency and also impresses with high power, ample torque, spontaneous response and a sonorous sound. The direct petrol injection engine with turbocharging has an output of 260 kW and produces a hefty torque of 500 Nm from 1,370 to 4,500 rpm. The turbo V6 engine accelerates the Audi S4 from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, and up to an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h. In the new S4, a fast and smoothly shifting eight-speed tiptronic handles the power transfer. Its lower gears have short, sporty ratios, while the upper gears are long to reduce revs and fuel consumption. The quattro permanent all-wheel drive makes a large contribution to the sporty handling of the S4. In normal driving, it distributes engine forces with a slight emphasis of the rear wheels – if necessary the majority of forces can be directed to the axle with better traction.

Local packages: offering simplicity The new Audi A4 range will offer the package concept as introduced on other new models launched in South Africa. The concept aims to reduce complexity when ordering a new vehicle, considering that a customer is generally faced with a long list of options to choose from. It classifies key options according to a specific customer need and offers a straight-forward value proposition that is easy for a customer to understand. These packages have been defined by a combination of customer preferences as well as strategic options which aim to highlight Audi’s uniqueness or technology enhancements.

The A7 Sportback represents the new Audi design language to a great extent and delivers on the design promise made by the prologue studies. The four-door coupé sets standards in the luxury sedan class when it comes to progressiveness. It embodies a new style of Gran Turismo, with dynamic lines, digitalization, a sporty driving experience and a versatile space concept.

Dynamics at their most beautiful: the exterior design

The exterior of the A7 Sportback is a true expression of Audi's new design cues. With large surfaces, sharp edges and taut, athletic lines, the A7 signals dynamics and progressiveness from every perspective. Up front, the Singleframe grille, the narrow headlights, the boldly contoured air inlets and the flat front end convey at a glance the sportiness of the Gran Turismo. The headlights come standard in the HD Matrix LED version with dynamic turn signals and light design.

The Audi A7 Sportback is an athletic sculpture with a long engine hood, long wheelbase and short overhangs. Pronounced contours emphasize the wheels, which measure up to 21 inches in diameter, and reference Audi's quattro genes. These genes determine the proportions of the vehicle's body. The silhouette is defined by the dynamic roofline, which drops sharply toward the rear. Four figures delineate the sporty character of the large coupé: It is 4,969 millimetres long, has a wheelbase of 2,926 millimetres and is 1,908 millimetres wide, but stands only 1,422 millimetres high.

As with the previous model, the rear end is tapered like that of a yacht. The long luggage compartment lid terminates in a pronounced, curved lip from which an integrated spoiler extends automatically at 120 km/h. A flat light strip - a design feature common to all of Audi's top models (as seen on the Audi Q8) - joins the rear lights, whose tail lights are made up of 13 vertical segments. When the doors are unlocked and again when they are locked, fast-moving light animations play in the rear lights and in the headlights, highlighting the big coupé's dynamics while standing still. The progressive exterior design of the new Audi A7 Sportback is largely devoid of chrome. The paint range offers a choice of 15 colours, eight of which are new.

The optional S line exterior package further hones the look, with modifications to the radiator grille and the front air inlets, the sills and the front and rear diffusers. They are trimmed in gloss black and more strongly sculpted.

Show car design comes to production: the interior

The interior fuses design and technology in a unique way. The interior of the new Audi A7 Sportback dazzles with its futuristic lounge atmosphere. With a large panoramic glass sunroof as standard, the interior lounge of the A7 brightens up. Its reduced, clean design language is based in a one-of-a-kind balance of tension and coolness. The horizontal lines and sleek instrument panel provide for a feeling of airy spaciousness. The centre console is oriented toward the driver, underscoring the Gran Turismo's sporty character. Four key values characterize the interior concept: progressiveness, sportiness, intuitiveness and sophistication.

All colours, upholstery materials and inlays underscore the new aesthetic in the vehicle. Standard seats are available in Milano leather with an upgrade to a Sport seat or a S Sport seat that comes fitted with the sophisticated Valcona leather or the S embossing as part of the S line Sports package.The standard contour ambient lighting package traces the contours and subtly highlights the space in 30 different colours.

The 10.1-inch upper display (in combination with MMI navigation plus) is tilted toward the driver. With its black panel optics and framed in a graphite grey aluminium clasp, it almost disappears into the dashboard when switched off. The body supporting the clasp is itself a geometric sculpture. The display's user interface appears as soon as the car is opened. In keeping with the interior design, the look is reduced and succinct.

The 4-zone comfort automatic air-conditioning system is another standard feature on the Audi A7 Sportback. The deluxe automatic air conditioning ensures optimum temperatures with a simultaneous increase in the feeling of space and fresh air. A defroster nozzle for windscreen and side mirrors is also included.

Control at your fingertips: MMI touch response control system and voice control

The new Audi A7 systematically continues Audi's digitalization strategy of the Q8. The interior architecture melds seamlessly with Audi's new MMI touch response operating concept. It replaces the rotary pushbutton and the conventional buttons and controls of the previous model with two large, high-resolution touch displays.

The driver controls the infotainment system from the upper display. Mounted on the asymmetric console of the centre tunnel, the 8.6-inch lower display provides access to the climate control system, comfort functions and text input. Drivers can rest their wrist on the automatic transmission's wide selector lever knob.

Audi offers an optional head-up display that projects important information onto the windshield. MMI navigation plus also includes the Audi virtual cockpit with a 12.3-inch display as standard.

The MMI touch response operating concept features haptic and acoustic feedback and is as intuitive to use as a smartphone. Users hear and feel a click as confirmation when their finger triggers a function. With its logical and flat menu structure, the system allows fast access to the various vehicle functions, and it can also be personalized thanks to configurable and movable "favourites" buttons.

The optional voice control in the new A7 Sportback makes operation even more convenient. With MMI navigation plus, the natural speech dialogue system processes questions and commands with information stored on-board.

More convenience: infotainment features

The new A7 Sportback comes standard with the MMI radio plus and MMI navigation plus with MMI touch response. The standard Audi phone box offers inductive charging for driver convenience and the Audi smartphone interface (also standard on the vehicle), allows for easy connectivity to Apple Car play and Android Auto. The Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System is a standard feature on the new A7 and delivers fascinating 3D sound to the interior of the cabin.

Intelligent: the Audi safety systems

The new A7 Sportback features a range of safety assistance systems to make things easier for the driver. This includes adaptive cruise control with speed limiter, efficiency assist, swerve assist and turn assist; 360? camera; land departure warning; night vision assistant and park assist. All driver assistance systems feature improved control mechanisms.

Handling and long-distance comfort: the chassis

The new A7 further extends its synthesis of sportiness and comfort. The optional dynamic-all-wheel steering, the new electronic chassis program (ECP) - the central controller for the chassis - and the updated air suspension make it even more agile, nimble and comfortable. The A7 is thus the perfect Gran Turismo: dynamic and agile on twisty country roads, yet comfortable on long highway stretches.

Many aspects of the front and rear axles have been developed from scratch. The standard progressive steering, whose generally sporty ratio becomes even more direct the further the steering wheel is turned, features a new concept for intensive road feedback. Mounted behind large wheels with improved rolling comfort are aluminium fixed-calliper brakes with discs up to 400 millimetres in diameter. Customers can choose between four suspension setups: a conventional steel spring suspension, the sport suspension that lowers ride height by 10 millimetres, electronically controlled damping and the self-levelling adaptive air suspension.

The top chassis-related innovation is dynamic-all-wheel steering. It combines direct, sporty steering response with unshakable stability, resolving the conflict of aims between agility and comfort. The steering ratio varies as a function of speed between 9.5:1 and 16.5:1 by means of active steering interventions at the front and rear axle. At the front axle, strain wave gearing is used to superimpose these in response to the driver's steering input. At the rear axle, a spindle drive turns the wheels by as much as 5 degrees. At low speed, they steer counter to the front wheels to further increase the agility of the big coupé when parking or driving in urban traffic, for example. This reduces the turning circle at full lock by 1.1 metres. At 60 km/h and above, the rear axle steers in the same direction to increase straight-line stability and facilitate lane changes.

The driver can use the Audi drive select system to activate different ride profiles featuring a more pronounced difference between comfort and sportiness than in the previous model.

Mild hybrid system for greater comfort and efficiency

A powerful 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine with 250 kW supplies effortless cruising and overtaking power in the A7 Sportback. A standard 48V mild-hybrid system provides greater comfort and efficiency. It also helps to keep fuel thirst down to 6.8 litre / 100 km corresponding to CO? emissions of 154 grams. This new mild hybrid system (MHEV) uses a 48-volt primary electrical system. A belt alternator starter (BAS) works together with a lithium-ion battery and achieves a recuperation performance of up to 12 kW when braking. At speeds between 55 and 160 km/h, the four-door coupé can coast in freewheeling mode with the engine deactivated and then restarted comfortably via the BAS.

The start-stop function has been significantly expanded and now activates at 22 km/h. In combination with the standard front camera, the engine is restarted predictively while at a standstill as soon as vehicle ahead begins to move. The four-door coupé sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and is paired with a seven-speed S tronic. Its quattro drivetrain uses the efficient ultra-technology that activates rear-wheel drive as needed.

The body concept: Coupé, Sedan and Avant in one

The A7 Sportback combines the best of all worlds and is a dynamic all-around talent for business and recreation. It offers the design of a coupé, the spaciousness of a sedan and the variability of an Avant. The interior concept of the A7 Sportback impresses with more space and more comfortable seating - and that despite having a dynamic roofline. Compared with the previous model, interior length has increased 21 millimetres, resulting in more rear knee room. Rear passengers also enjoy more head room. The loading width has also increased compared with the previous model and now measures 1,050 millimetres.

Despite the markedly dynamic lines, the luggage compartment has a base capacity of 535 litres. This increases to 1,390 litres with the rear seats folded down. The luggage compartment has been optimized so that two golf bags now fit horizontally - in addition to the optional spare tire. The optional sensor-controlled rear hatch opens and closes automatically in response to a foot motion.

Pricing and availability

The new Audi A7 55 TFSI Sportback quattro S tronic is priced at R 1,250,000 and comes standard with the 5 year / 100 000km Audi Freeway plan, inclusive of all taxes. The new vehicle is currently available for sale at all Audi Dealerships around South Africa. The S7 Sportback will be included into the range in quarter one next year, followed by the high performance model, the Audi RS7 Sportback to be launched in the second half of 2020.

The new Audi A6 range is more versatile than ever before - with end-to-end digitalization, enhanced comfort, more sportiness and a technical, elegant design. The all-digital MMI touch response system provides intuitive operation and even more personalization. The improved assistance systems demonstrate intelligent automotive innovation and the suspension combines smooth ride comfort, unshakable stability with enhanced sportiness.

Interior digitalization and enhanced comfort

Fast access to functions and a high degree of customization - the new smartphone-like display and MMI touch operating system makes use intuitive in the Audi A6. It is thus the most modern operating concept in its class. Two large displays (as seen in the new Audi A7 Sportback and Audi Q8) replace most of the buttons and controls of the predecessor model. As such it is a prime example of the end-to-end digitalization which the new A6 brings to the business class. The all-digital operating system also supports a high degree of personalization. In the top display, the buttons for all functions can be placed freely, similar to the user experience with smartphone apps. In the bottom display, the user can create up to 27 individual shortcuts for key vehicle functions and favourites such as phone numbers, radio stations or navigation destinations.

Users hear and feel a click as confirmation as soon as their finger triggers a function by lightly pressing the touch-sensitive display. The user can adjust the intensity of this acoustic and tactile feedback as required. The driver manages the infotainment on the top display, which has a 10.1-inch screen and the bottom 8.6-inch display, located in the console in the centre tunnel, is used for the climate control, convenience and vehicle functions as well as for text input. With this new setup, the driver's wrist can sit comfortably on the selector lever of the transmission. MMI navigation plus (standard feature within the A6 range) also includes the Audi virtual cockpit whose high-resolution display measures 12.3 inches. Operation is via the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel. When it comes to navigation, the system acts as a highly networked media hub and offers a self-learning function based on the driven routes. There is also an optional head-up display which projects information relevant to the driver into the driver's field of view on the windshield, for instance a detailed map for the navigation.

Besides the MMI touch response operating system the A6 also offers the online voice control system. This allows a wide range of vehicle functions, such as controlling the air conditioning system, to be performed using everyday speech commands. The A6 is thus an intelligent dialog partner and travel companion.

In terms of sound systems, the Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, boasting 16 loudspeakers and 3D sound functionality which delivers an output of 705 watts, is optionally available for the A6 40 TDI and standard equipment for the S6.

Driver assistance systems for more safety and comfort

With numerous driver assistance systems the new A6 sets new standards in the premium class. The driver assistance systems with refined control mechanisms enhance convenience and additional support for drivers' tasks. This includes the adaptive cruise assist, which besides adaptive cruise control and the predictive efficiency assist also comprises the swerve and turn assist and thus supports the driver with maneuvering the vehicle effectively. Also included is a night vision assistant which uses an infrared camera and reacts to the heat given off by objects. Converted to black and white images, the information can be viewed in the instrument cluster or the Audi virtual cockpit. The cooler surroundings appear dark, while animals and people appear strikingly bright thereby providing an effective safety feature. Emergency assist enhances safety by bringing the vehicle to a stop in an emergency.

Electrification in the S6

To further enhance comfort and efficiency of the Audi S6, this model is fitted with a mild hybrid system. In combination with the six-cylinder engine, a 48V mild hybrid system is used. The S6 can coast between 55 and 160 km/h and the start-stop kicks in right from 22 km/h. In real-world driving, the mild hybrid technology based on 48V reduces fuel consumption by up to 0.7 litres per 100 kilometres.

Body and dimensions - more legroom in the business class

Long journeys are the domain of the new Audi A6. With a generous amount of space; many convenience features; and minimal interior noise, the business-class sedan pampers the driver and passengers alike. Its interior is even larger than on the outgoing model - the A6 beats its core competitors in important criteria such as legroom in the rear.

The A6 range is perfectly equipped for long journeys with new convenience functions. The seats are all-new. The A6 offers leather/leatherette upholstery and electric seats with memory as a standard feature. The top-of-the-line Audi S6 contains sport seats as standard equipment, however optionally available are S sport seats or the customized contour front seats with numerous adjustment functions, optionally fitted with ventilation and massage function. The panoramic glass sunroof (standard for S6 models) floods the interior with light. The luggage compartment, with its capacity of 530 litres will accommodate two golf bags crosswise, while the trunk lid can be closed electrically with a kicking motion, optional on the A6 but standard on the S6.

The low noise level of the A6 range also makes it an ideal long-distance specialist. The body structure is a major factor in achieving this. Designed with a mixed steel and aluminium construction, the body is extremely rigid. It provides the basis for high torsional stiffness, minimal body movement and the sporty, precise handling. Thanks to its sophisticated aeroacoustics, including acoustic glass, it remains very quiet in the interior, even at high speeds.

Suspension technology for enhanced maneuverability and agility

Maneuverable in town, sporty on open roads, and poised and comfortable on the highway - the new Audi A6 handles even more dynamically than its predecessor model. The reason is the different suspension components - from the centralized control of all systems via control strategies; newly developed axles; through to new features such as optional dynamic all-wheel steering.

The standard progressive steering generally has a direct ratio, with the increasing steering angle it operates even more sportily. Its electromechanical power assistance transfers useful information to the driver, yet eliminates unpleasant jolts. This provides a direct connection between steering wheel, wheels and road. As an option, Audi delivers the new A6 with the dynamic all-wheel steering. With this setup, the A6 handles more compactly than a midsize model and with greater maneuverability than any other model in the segment, despite its exterior length of almost five metres. The combination of a superimposed steering and a rear-axle steering thus resolves the classic conflict of objectives in the field of suspension. It combines direct steering response with unshakable stability. Depending on the speed, the overall ratio varies between 9.5:1 and 16.5:1.

In the front-axle steering, a strain wave gearing operates; at the rear axle a spindle drive turns the wheels up to 5 degrees - unrivalled in the segment. At speeds up to 60 km/h they turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels, thus reducing the turning circle by up to one metre. At high speeds from 60 km/h, the wheels turn in the same direction, thus increasing stability when traveling in a straight line or changing lanes. And in turn improving handling safety. At the same time, passengers enjoy enhanced comfort as steering movements when changing lanes are felt much less in the rear in particular.

The upgraded wheel suspension of the Audi A6 is made extensively from lightweight aluminium. Despite the larger wheels compared with the predecessor model - up to 21 inches with 255/35 size tyres - the ride and noise comfort is top-class. Brakes with fixed calipers made from aluminium are fitted to the front axle. Audi provides a choice for the suspension setup, thus extending even further the spread between sportiness and comfort. The steel spring suspension is the basic specification; customers can also choose from the sport suspension also with steel springs and the adaptive air suspension with controlled damping is exclusively available for the S6.

The powertrain - powerful and efficient

The A6 range will be available locally with three engines. A 2.0 TDI engine kicks off the range with 140 kW and 400 Nm (Audi A6 40 TDI); followed by a 3.0 TDI with 183 kW and 600 Nm (Audi 45 TDI); and a top-of-the-range 2.9 TFSI engine (Audi S6 TFSI) with 331 kW and 600 Nm. All engines provide outstandingly strong power delivery, high efficiency and refined operation.

All variants within the A6 range are fitted standard with automatic transmissions. While the V6 diesel engines are paired with an eight-speed tiptronic, the 40 TDI is coupled as standard with a seven-speed S tronic. The 45 TDI and the S6 TFSI forwards its power as standard to the quattro all-wheel drive. In conjunction with the tiptronic, the A6 has a self-locking centre differential.

The exterior design - technical and elegant

The new A6 is an expressive ambassador of the new Audi design language. With taut surfaces, sharply defined edges and striking lines, the business class sedan unmistakably conveys its character. It stands for sporty elegance, high tech and sophistication. The exterior stands out with balanced proportions and short overhangs, the dimensions of the eighth-generation Audi A6 have grown a few millimetres compared with its predecessor model line - by seven millimetres to 4.94 metres long, by twelve millimetres to 1.89 metres wide and by two millimetres to 1.46 metres high.

The wide, low-slung Singleframe grille with chrome trim, the flat headlights and the powerfully contoured air inlets exude elegance and sportiness at the front. In the side view, the powerfully taut contours above the wheel arches are testimony to Audi's quattro genes. The taut roofline flows into the steeply raked C-pillars. A chrome strip accentuates the rear and provides a link between the lights. The paint range includes a choice of 14 colours. For an advanced sportier look, the A6 is available with the S line exterior package and the S6 is obtainable with a black styling package (enhanced black accents to the exterior).

The S6 is characterized by its striking, distinctive design and sophistication - outside and inside alike. A dynamically styled front trim, wide sills and a wide rear diffuser with four tailpipe trims infuse the S6 with on-road presence. Distinctive S trim elements in dark chrome and aluminium on the radiator grille lamellas, the front blade, the side air inlet, the exterior mirrors and the rear diffuser proclaim a sporty look at a glance.

The horizontal splitter in aluminium look creates an enormous feeling of width at the front. It links the two air inlets and ends with the two winglets at the air ducts. At the rear, the S6 features an integrated spoiler that visually extends the trunk lid, subtly emphasizing its sportiness. Aluminium applications in the diffuser link the four S-specific tailpipe trims. These also underline the width of the vehicle.

In terms of wheel offerings, the A6 range offers an 18" standard wheel on the A6 40 and 45 TDI models with an option to upgrade to a wheel size of up to 21". The S6 comes standard with a 20" wheel, with an upgrade choice of two different 21" wheel designs.

The lighting design - technology brought to life

The lighting design emphasizes the technical character of the A6. Audi supplies the headlights in three versions: LED headlights and rear lights (standard on A6 40 TDI); Matrix LED headlights and dynamic indicators (standard on A6 45 TDI) and the HD Matrix LED technology with high-resolution, dynamically illuminating high beam (standard on the S6 TFSI). In all of these offerings there are five horizontal lines that draw the daytime running light signature on the vehicle - above them are the dipped beam modules that look like pupils.

The interior design - futuristic and clean

On the sleek instrument panel of the new A6 range, a technical, futuristic black-panel design dominates which impressively combines form and function. The design language appears reduced and matter-of-fact; the horizontal lines create an airy sense of space. The centre console and the two MMI touch response displays are angled slightly toward the driver. When switched off, the top display is incorporated almost invisibly into the dark decorative surface. All elements, from the open-pore wood trim to the upholstery, attest to the uncompromisingly high Audi quality.

Locally developed packages - a range of equipment for all tastes

Locally developed packages for the new A6 range offer different characteristics - from comfort to sport - and in an effort to reduce complexity and offer increased value to the customer. The comfort package comprises of popular interior features such as 4-zone automatic air-conditioning; comfort key; operating buttons in black glass with haptic touch; front seat heating and storage. The sport package bundles important exterior features and technological equipment to provide for a sportier look. This includes S line exterior package; contour ambient lighting; high-gloss styling package and sports suspension.

The Audi A6 40 TDI and S6 TFSI are currently available for sale at all Audi Dealerships around South Africa. The Audi A6 45 TDI is planned to be introduced into market by mid-year. The high performance model, the Audi RS6 Avant is planned to be launched in the second half of 2020.

Progressive design, compact dimensions, and great driving pleasure: The Audi Q2 established itself as a car full of character right away when it was introduced in the market four years ago. Audi has now refreshed the car, giving the exterior an even more distinctive profile with striking details as part of three different trim lines. The new Audi Q2 will officially retail in South Africa from 1 June 2021.

Even more striking at the front and rear: the exterior design

The Audi Q2 is a robust, sporty all-around vehicle as its design indicates at the first glance: It is sporty, elongated, and unique at the same time, and its corners and edges give it an even more confident appearance. The compact SUV measures 4.208 metres in length, 17 millimetres more than before. The wheelbase of 2.60 metres, the width of 1.79 metres, and the height of 1.508 metres have remained the same. The drag coefficient with sport suspension is 0.31 – a top-of-the-range result in the small SUV segment.

The Audi designers have now applied the motif of the polygon, which already characterized the front and shoulder line, to the rear end as well: The bumper has an integrated angular diffuser insert with large pentagons on both sides. The front has also been modified, and the surfaces below the headlights now have a more distinctive shape. The large implied air inlets, which are also pentagonal, also appear even more expressive, especially in the S line trim line. The octagonal Singleframe is slightly lower than before, making the front section appear wider.

The colour palette of the updated Audi Q2 includes five new colours: Apple green is celebrating its premiere with the brand, and Manhattan grey, Navarra blue, arrow grey, and turbo blue are newly available for the compact SUV. The blades on the C-pillars are painted either in body colour or designed in silver, grey or black (depending on the trim line or package selected).

In addition to the basic version, Audi offers the advanced and S line exterior trim lines. In the basic version, the attachments in the lower area of the body are grained black; in the Advanced line, they are painted in Manhattan grey, and in the S line, they are painted in the body colour. All lines include mirror housings in the body colour, and the front entries feature aluminium strips. The optional black styling package further enhances the Q2’s expressive exterior design with black accents and elements.

Top-of-the-line technology: Matrix LED headlights

Even in the standard version, the revised Q2 illuminates the road with LED headlights, and Audi will install the new Matrix LED headlights upon request. One shared module houses seven individual LEDs. The intelligently controlled high beam light always illuminates the road as brightly as possible without blinding other road users. Ten further light-emitting diodes installed behind rhomboid optical components generate the daytime running light. Seven LEDs generate the dynamic turn signals independently.

For the rear lights, Audi offers a version with LED technology (only on Advanced and S line models). If the Matrix LED headlights are on board, the dynamic turn signal is also included. When the car is locked and unlocked, dynamic light sequencing plays in the headlights and rear lights.

Engine and trim lines on offer for the Q2

The compact SUV is being launched in the South African market with one engine offering. The 1.4 TFSI that powers the Q2 35 TFSI has an output of 110 kW and produces 250 Nm of torque. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 8.8 seconds; its peak is 213 km/h. The vehicle is fitted with an 8-speed tiptronic gearbox. The standard trim line includes: 16-inch wheels and the blade in body colour. The Advanced trim line includes: 17-inch wheels; blade in Manhattan grey; bumper in contrasting paint (grey finish); LED rear lights; sports seats and index fabric upholstery.

The S line includes: 18-inch wheels; blade in Platinum grey; bumper in full paint finish; LED rear lights; sports seats; index fabric upholstery and sports suspension.

A pleasant place: the interior

The spacious interior of the Audi Q2 accommodates five passengers. They can get in with ease and sit in a comfortably elevated position. The optional panoramic glass sunroof brings light and air into the car; tinted privacy glazing, which is also optional, shields the rear seating area from view. The luggage compartment holds 405 litres, expanding to 1,050 litres when the rear seat backs are folded down. As an optional extra, Audi will deliver the storage and luggage compartment with a tailgate that opens and closes electrically.

The interior design of the compact SUV echoes the taut design language of the exterior. The round air vents with their jet design and the gear lever knob – or selector lever of the S tronic – have been retouched slightly. The S line interior package enhances the standard appearance of the cabin and can be added with the Advanced and S line exterior trim lines.

In the basic interior, standard or sport seats are available with fabric upholstery or a combination of leather and leatherette (artificial leather). Standard seat upholstery includes script fabric in black. Sports seats are available in index fabric as standard and is finished off in black with rock grey accents. Sports seats can be optionally upgraded with leather / leatherette upholstery or as part of the S line interior package, these are finished off in black colour with rock grey stitching. The upholstery also features embossed S logos on the backrest in the latter offering.

Customers who order the contour ambient lighting package can choose from ten colours to add visual lighting personality to the interior of the new Audi Q2. As part of this package, the decorative inserts within the cabin are able to light up as well.

New package strategy: equipment and materials

Audi offers four distinct local equipment packages which offers convenience, customisation and inclusive value proposition. This includes the following: Comfort Package: electric tailgate; 4-way lumbar support; seat heaters in front; storage and luggage compartment package with two rear USB’s.

Tech Package: MMI navigation plus; Audi smartphone interface; Audi virtual cockpit.

Black styling package: only available on the Advanced and S line models and includes Singleframe in black; front and rear bumper trims in black; exterior mirrors in black; side blade in black; 19-inch 10-spoke Y style wheels in black; sports suspension. This package is only available with the Advanced and S line models.

S line interior package: only available on the Advanced and S line models and includes decorative inserts in matte brushed aluminium; S line emblems; headliner in black fabric; interior aluminium look; pedal and foot rest in stainless steel; scuff plates with aluminium inserts in front and illuminated with “S” logo as well. This package is only available with the Advanced and S line models.

Displays and infotainment

The range in terms of displays and infotainment is structured in two levels in the Q2. An analog instrument with a colour display comes as standard. The top-of-the-line version is the Audi virtual cockpit with a 12.3-inch diagonal which forms part of the Technology Package and also includes Audi smartphone interface and MMI navigation plus, which is operated via the rotary push button on the centre tunnel (MMI touch) or via natural-language voice control.

The optional Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System actuates 14 loudspeakers with an output of 705 watts – its performance is a special feature in the compact SUV segment.

Progressive steering as standard: the suspension

The Audi Q2 is a sporty compact SUV. Its standard equipment includes the progressive steering, which becomes more and more direct the further the driver turns the steering wheel. It thereby ensures excellent handling while maneuvering and a great driving experience on winding roads. Since the model is front-wheel drive, wishbones and MacPherson suspension struts guide the front wheels, and a torsion-beam structure is installed in the rear.

The sport suspension lowers the body by 10 millimetres (standard with the S line model). The Audi drive select dynamic handling system enables the driver to configure the drive, steering assistance, and other systems in five modes: auto, efficiency, comfort, dynamic, and individual. With roughly 20 centimetres of ground clearance, the compact SUV also does well on unpaved roads. The ESC stabilization control has an integrated offroad mode.

Audi presents the SQ7 and the SQ8 with a V8 diesel engine in the high-performance SUV segment. In terms of their suspension, the Audi SQ7 and SQ8 offer many high-tech components, but it’s their aggressive and sporty design as well as their connectivity and technology features which rounds off the package really well. The large S models are now available for sale in South Africa as part of a limited, once-off TDI engine launch opportunity.

310 kW and 900 Nm of torque: The 4.0 TDI has an easy job with the Audi SQ7 and the Audi SQ8. Making its South African debut, this engine is Audi’s most powerful diesel engine currently available. The twin-turbo V8 accelerates both models from zero to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The electronics limit the propulsion at 250 km/h. Depending on the equipment, the SQ7 TDI consumes around 8.7 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres in a combined cycle, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 228 grams per kilometre. For the SQ8 TDI, these figures are 8.3 litres and 217 grams of CO2.

A quickly shifting eight-speed tiptronic and the quattro permanent all-wheel drive put the power of this 4.0 TDI onto the road. A clutch in the automatic transmission engages freewheeling when the driver takes their foot off the accelerator. In regular driving operation, the purely mechanical centre differential distributes the drive torque to the front axle and rear axle at a ratio of 40:60. If traction decreases at one axle, it directs most of the torque to the other axle – up to 70% to the front or up to 85% to the rear axle.

Audi provides the SQ7 and SQ8 TDI with the adaptive air suspension sport system which integrates controlled dampers. It is capable of varying the ride height of the body by up to 90 millimetres (vehicle height is 15 millimetres lower than the adaptive air suspension option). The optional all-wheel steering consists of two components. The front axle steering, which has a sporty and direct gear ratio of 13.3:1, increases the vehicle’s agility and manoeuvrability considerably. A spindle drive influences the rear wheels: At low speed, it turns them by up to 5 degrees in the opposite direction, which makes it easier to manoeuvre. From a speed of about 60 km/h, it turns them slightly in the same direction for improved stability during fast changes of direction in particular.

As a central control unit, the electronic chassis platform (ECP) connects the controlled suspension systems, with the exception of all-wheel steering. The driver experiences this close and lightning-fast coordination as maximum handling precision. They decide how the controlled suspension components as well as the 4.0 TDI and the tiptronic are to operate via the Audi drive select system. The driver can choose from seven driving profiles: comfort, auto, dynamic, efficiency, allroad, offroad, and individual.

As standard, the Audi SQ7 and SQ8 are fitted with 21-inch Audi Sport wheels with an option to upgrade to 22-inch (for the SQ7) and up to 23-inch (for the SQ8). Brake discs measuring 400 millimetres in diameter are fitted to the front axle, with 350 millimetre discs on the rear axle. The red brake callipers feature an S logo on the front axle and are standard for both models.

Sporty look: the exterior design

Thanks to its S-specific details, the special status of the Audi SQ7 and SQ8 becomes apparent at first glance. The front features double slats in the Singleframe and a distinctly three-dimensional blade in the bumper, while the side air inlets are filled with a honeycomb grid.

At the side, the exterior mirror housings in aluminium look catch the eye, while the underbody protection with its powerful design, a honeycomb grid insert, and the four characteristic tailpipes provide highlights at the rear. Some attachments are designed in matte silver, including the frame of the Singleframe, which is designed as a wide mask in the SQ8. If the customer ordered the black styling package, the frame as well as other exterior parts (roof rails, trim strips on side windows, mirrors and front and rear bumpers) are finished in black paint. In addition to this, the extended black styling package adds the Audi rings at the front and rear as well as the SQ7 or SQ8 lettering in the radiator grille and on the boot lid in black. A standard panoramic glass sunroof rounds off the exterior design with class.

Sporty character: interior and equipment

The elegant sporty look is continued in the spacious interior of the Audi SQ7 and the SQ8 TDI. The sport seats are upholstered with top-quality Valcona leather and come standard with a heating function in the front and memory function for both front seats. Their backrests feature S embossing and colour-coordinated contrasting stitching complements the appearance. The inlays are made of matt brushed aluminium. The series production scope also includes illuminated door sill trims with aluminium inlays with the S logo at the front. The pedals, the footrest, and the loading sill protector are made of stainless steel.

Upon request, Audi will install S sport seats plus with integrated head restraints. Their covers are also made of Valcona leather but feature a rhombus pattern and diamond stitching. Arras red is available as a further colour option in addition to the grey and black colour schemes. The S sport seats can be further refined with ventilation and a massage function. A third seat row is available for the Audi SQ7. The contour/ambient lighting package, which is also another standard feature on both models, illuminates contours and surfaces in 30 colours that can be adjusted to the driver’s individual taste via the MMI.

New computing power: infotainment and controls

In terms of controls, infotainment, and connectivity, the Audi SQ7 and Audi SQ8 are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The MMI touch response control system integrates two large displays in the centre of the instrument panel. They have a 10.1-inch and 8.6-inch diagonal measurement respectively, and respond with haptic and acoustic feedback to all finger input. The menu structure makes it easy to control with flat hierarchies. The user can configure the interface of the upper display such that they can follow multiple apps at the same time.

The two S models provide a natural language voice control system as a second control level, which understands many formulations from everyday language and accesses the knowledge of the cloud to respond to many requests.

A head-up display that projects important information onto the windshield is available as an option. The standard Audi virtual cockpit plus with S-specific views is controlled via the multifunction steering wheel and serves as the standard display instrument. The driver can activate different screens, including an “S-Performance” look. It shifts the focus to the rev counter and displays the power output and torque as percentages. These standard and attractive hardware modules supplement the infotainment portfolio. The Audi smartphone interface embeds iOS and Android smartphones on the MMI display in their native environments Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Audi phone box couples smartphones with the car’s antenna and charges them inductively provided that the phone is equipped with this function. The Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System with 3D sound is also available and integrates an amplifier that outputs 1,920 watts and actuates up to 23 speakers.

Convenience equipment such as four-zone automatic air conditioning is standard. The HD Matrix LED headlights with dynamic light design (standard on the Audi SQ8) are a further piece of top-of-the-line technology: Thanks to their intelligent regulation, they illuminate the road with maximum brightness and precision in any situation. In the SQ7, Matrix LED headlights with dynamic turn signals are part of the vehicle offering.

Audi connect: top-calibre connectivity

The services in the Audi connect portfolio offer customized information and intelligent assistance. The SQ7 and SQ8 are equipped with the top infotainment system MMI navigation plus as standard, which exploits the full potential of Audi connect. The navigation system offers satellite images and takes predictions on the development of the traffic situation, weather, parking availability and point of interest search information into account.

If the car is driven by multiple drivers, up to six users can save their individual settings – from frequently selected destinations to their preferred lighting – in separate profiles. The data is uploaded to the customer’s myAudi account in the cloud and stored there for their access via the app. The car adjusts the individual settings when the driver’s door is opened. This convenient personalization feature comes as standard with the Audi SQ7 and the SQ8.

The Audi connect functionality also includes Car2X services which consists of standard safety and service features in the event of damage, breakdown or minor accidents. This functionality (through a built-in emergency button in the vehicle’s roof module) allows an emergency safety or service call to an Audi call centre to support in any event. Additional functionality, accessible through the MyAudi application, includes remote functions that network the SQ7 and SQ8 TDI with the driver’s smartphone. This includes car finder, remote lock/unlocking, speed and theft alerts, to mention a few.

Smart character: the driving safety systems

The assist systems make driving the Audi SQ7 and the SQ8 feel even more confident and comfortable. Safety systems such as Audi pre sense basic are included as standard with a host of other assistance systems available. The adaptive cruise control takes over steering, accelerating, and decelerating for the driver in many situations. The improved restarting comfort is a new feature: Even after a longer standstill, the adaptive cruise control gets the car start rolling again if the car in front starts moving. It takes only a slight touch for the car to detect that the driver is taking responsibility for steering and automatic lateral guidance can remain active.

The efficiency assist supports a fuel-efficient driving style by notifying the driver as to when it would make sense to take their foot off the gas. Systems such as the intersection assist, rear cross traffic assist, exit warning, and the surround view cameras add to the portfolio.

Audi has fine-tuned many details of the RS 4 Avant and RS 5 model ranges (Sportback and Coupé). The newly designed front section and the sporty interior with the new MMI touch operating system underline the athletic aspirations of these new performance models. The high-torque twin-turbo V6 with a power output of 331 kW applies an impressive 600 Nm of torque in both model ranges. VIP customer deliveries of the Audi RS 4 Avant, RS 5 Sportback and RS 5 Coupé, have officially begun in South Africa as part of a pre-launch strategy ahead of the official retail launch from 1 April 2021. Streamlined and muscular: the exterior design.

The front section of the new RS 4 Avant, RS 5 Sportback and Coupé is completely redesigned. The Singleframe is wider and flatter and just like its big RS brothers, the new models also feature the three-dimensional honeycomb structure in gloss black that is typical for the RS model series. To give it a clean look, the Singleframe is designed without a frame. The new egg-crate grille with the RS emblem is inserted directly into the bumper with the large lateral air inlets and vertical flaps in a new, pentagonal cut.

The shape of the LED headlights have also been redesigned. The matrix LED headlights (standard on the RS 5 range but optional on the RS 4 Avant) with darkened bezels complete the revised appearance of the high-performance models. Both models have wider wheel arches aiding to a more sportier and powerful stance. The matte aluminium styling package is the standard exterior appearance offering with the optional packages of gloss black or carbon/black which give the attachments at the front, rear, side sills and exterior mirror housings an even more individual look. Upon request or part of the extended black styling package, the Audi rings and the RS nameplates can be painted black.

On the RS 4 Avant, the roof rails are designed in matte aluminium look as standard, while black roof rails are available as a no cost option. The RS-specific roof edge spoiler and the diffuser insert as well as the chrome tailpipes of the RS exhaust system give the vehicle a distinct finish. On the RS 5 models, the side sills and the diffuser insert at the rear end, which encloses the two large tailpipes of the exhaust system, have also been redesigned. The Coupé is fitted with a carbon roof with a CFRP fibre structure which lowers the vehicle’s weight by just under four kilograms. Both models come standard with the RS sport exhaust system which creates a particularly sporty sound experience and 20” Audi Sport alloy wheels.

Cool and connected: the interior

Horizontal lines and dark colours dominate the interior of the revised RS models adding to a premium and spacious cabin. LED light guides trace the contours of the doors and the centre console—doing so in up to 30 different colours in combination with the standard contour ambient lighting package. The RS sport seats are covered with fine Nappa leather in black or moon silver and honeycomb stitching as part of the standard offering. As an upgrade, the RS design package adds some colour to the interior of the cars and includes control elements such as the steering wheel, selector lever and knee pads are fitted with Alcantara covers with red contrasting stitching; armrests in the doors in black Fine Nappa leather with contrasting stitching in crescendo red; side centre console in black Alcantara with contrasting stitching in crescendo red; seat belts at the front and outer rear seats in black with a red border; floor mats in black with contrasting stitching in crescendo red and RS lettering on the front.

The new operating concept of the two RS model ranges is concentrated on a 10.1-inch MMI touch display. The large, free-standing display with acoustic feedback is slightly inclined toward the driver. The standard infotainment system which is MMI navigation plus, includes a specific RS monitor which provides the driver with information on the drive temperature, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, the quattro sport differential, the tyre pressure and the tyre temperature.

The Audi virtual cockpit plus (12.3-inch display in full HD resolution) is another standard offering across both RS model ranges. The driver can select between multiple graphic views - classic; dynamic and sport, suited to a layout preference. With the new RS-specific performance design view (specifically applicable to RS models and available at an upgradable option), the rotational speed scale is displayed as a kind of angle that includes a shift light display. When the driver uses the RS mode steering wheel button to select one of the two new individual RS modes, the RS-specific performance design opens up and displays the maximum g-acceleration values, for example. The optional head-up display also offers exclusive RS graphics and the standard Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with 3D sound completes both model ranges with acoustic excellence.

The innovative and forward-thinking features of Audi connect are now available in the RS 4 Avant, RS 5 Sportback and Coupé. The technology delivers top-of-the-line connectivity. It features an embedded SIM, and the extensive Audi connect portfolio. The latter ranges from online traffic information, point of interest search, Navigation with satellite map and live weather updates. The Audi connect functionality also includes Car2X services which consists of standard safety and service features in the event of damage, breakdown or minor accidents. This functionality (through a built-in emergency button in the vehicle’s roof module) allows an emergency safety or service call to an Audi call centre to support in any event. Additional functionality, accessible through the MyAudi application, includes remote functions that network the new RS model with the driver’s smartphone. This includes car finder, remote lock/unlocking, speed and theft alerts, to mention a few.

The RS 4 Avant provides excellent everyday usability. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 495 litres, which increases to 1,495 litres with the rear seats folded down and cargo loaded to the roof. The luggage compartment lid and the luggage compartment cover are electrically operated as standard. A trailer towing hitch that can be unlocked electrically at the push of a button is also available upon request. The new RS models can also assist the driver in many situations. With the many driver assistance and parking systems on board, such as lane change assist (standard); 360 degree camera and park assist (optional City Assistance Package); adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist and Audi active lane assist (optional Assistance Package), the performance models are a safe travelling companion.

Traction, dynamism, and stability: the drive

Immense tractive power and a high output combined with efficiency: The 2.9 TFSI twin-turbo V6, the heart of the RS 4 and 5 models, outputs an unchanged 331 kW and already delivers a whopping 600 Nm of torque as from a speed of 1,900 rpm. All models accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of up to 280 km/h upon request.

A quick-shifting eight-speed tiptronic directs the power of the engine to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive. The driver can control the gear change via the new larger aluminium shift paddles. The quattro drivetrain provides the RS models with the crucial amount of additional traction, dynamism, and stability, regardless of the weather. The handling is made even sportier with the optional sport differential at the rear axle, which distributes the torque actively between the wheels. All models come standard with the RS sports suspension which provides a comfortable on-road driving experience.

Johannesburg, 29 July, 2021 – The Audi A3 successfully established itself locally in the premium compact class in 1998. With customer deliveries of more than 63 000 units over the last two decades, the A3 model range is a firm favourite in South Africa. The brand with the Four Rings is now presenting the fourth generation of the A3 Sportback and the second generation of the A3 Sedan. The Audi A3 now combines sportier looks with an efficient drive. In addition, Audi’s successful model range also features a digital operating concept and numerous other innovations. Whether as a five-door Sportback, a four-door Sedan or a performance S derivative – the A3 range will be available for retail in South Africa from 1 August 2021. Distinctive: design and lighting

The new A3 models feature compact proportions and a sporty design. The wide Singleframe and large air inlets at the front end accentuate their dynamic character. The shoulder of the body extends in a smooth line from the headlights to the rear lights. The area below is curved inward. This “concave” element is new to Audi’s design and puts a stronger emphasis on the wheel arches. The Audi A3 Sportback and Sedan come in three trim lines. The Standard model offers 16-inch wheels and black detailing around the grille and air intakes. With the Advanced model, the wheel increases to 17-inches and the exterior detailing becomes chrome with Advanced line bumpers. The S line includes a modified and sportier bumper design, sports suspension, illuminated door sills with the S emblem and an S style spoiler on the Sportback.

The digital daytime running lights of the optional Matrix LED headlights are a further innovation. On the S line model, they consist of a pixel array made up of LED segments in a three by five arrangement that create special light signatures and make the new A3 immediately recognizable. The sporty and sophisticated design is continued in the interior with a stand-out and new gear shifter, aluminium or carbon inlays, striking wedge-like door handles, and an instrument panel with a black-finish look – new design elements which are generally expected from the higher vehicle class.

With the new S3 models, they display their dynamic design character from the very first glance. The front is dominated by the Singleframe with its large rhombus-patterned grille and impressive air inlets, while the housings of the exterior mirrors have a gleaming aluminium look. At the rear end, the large diffuser and the four exhaust tailpipes accentuate the vehicle’s sportiness. With quattro all-wheel drive, 19-inch wheels, red brake calipers and S model specific bumpers, suspension and other S details, the S3 models are impressive characters within the new A3 range.

Optimized: the space concept

The new A3 models offer more space and functionality combined with compact external dimensions. Measuring 4.34 metres in length and 1.82 metres in width (without mirrors), the A3 Sportback has grown by just over three centimetres compared with its predecessor. The height of 1.43 metres – without the roof antenna – and the wheelbase of 2.64 metres remained unchanged. Depending on the position of the rear bench seat, the luggage compartment holds between 380 and 1,200 litres, and the loading floor can be inserted at different heights. Upon request and in combination with the comfort key feature, tailgate for the Sportback and the Sedan can also be electronically operated. The new Audi A3 Sedan is just over 15 centimetres longer than the A3 Sportback. All other dimensions are identical. At 425 litres, the luggage capacity is the same as in the predecessor model. The rear end and the large diffuser help the Sedan to achieve an excellent drag coefficient of 0.25.

Digitalized: controls and displays

The cockpit of the new A3 is wholly focused on the driver. It uses familiar elements from the brand’s full-size class models and is equipped with a 10.1-inch touch display as standard, which is integrated in the centre of the instrument panel. It recognizes letters entered by hand, provides acoustic feedback, and can be controlled using natural voice language. The instrument cluster, which the driver operates via the multifunction steering wheel, is now also digital as standard. The optional Audi virtual cockpit plus (as part of the Technology Package) provides additional functions such as the large display of the navigation map. It measures 12.3 inches and enables three different views, including graphics with a sporty look.

Intensified: the infotainment

The MMI operating concept is powered by the new third-generation modular infotainment platform. Its computing power is ten times higher than that of its predecessor. It performs all tasks relating to connectivity, including telephony and the Audi connect services with LTE Advanced speed. Individual settings can be stored in up to six user profiles – from climate control and the seat position to frequently selected navigation destinations and frequently used media. The DAB+ digital radio is included as standard and the online or hybrid radio is available as an option. Route guidance is particularly easy and flexible. For example, the navigation offers predictions on the development of the traffic situation and high-resolution satellite images. The Audi A3 model range also ushers in fully integrated connectivity, the Audi connect portfolio includes a host of online services which offer advanced infotainment, navigation and Car-to-X services which take advantage of the swarm intelligence to service, safety and convenience built into the connected A3. The new Audi A3 can be connected to the user’s smartphone via the myAudi app, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, as well as via the Audi phone box. The latter connects the device to the car antenna and charges it inductively.

Refined: the engines

In South Africa, there are two engine offerings at launch, with an additional option becoming available later in 2021. The A3 35 TFSI (1.4 TFSI), with 110 kW of power and an eight-speed tiptronic transmission, serves as the entry-level engine. The larger petrol engine, A3 40 TFSI (2.0 TFSI) with 140 kW, follows with seven-speed S tronic transmission (only available from November 2021 onwards). The performance-led S3 TFSI with quattro offers 213 kW, 400 Nm and a quick-shifting seven-speed S tronic, the selector lever of which is now designed as a compact shifter and available across the range. The driver can push and pull this to control the basic functions of the automatic transmission.

Refined: the suspension

The suspension of the new A3 models – with a four-link rear axle for engines from 110 kW – is sporty and balanced, combining pleasant ride comfort with good dynamics. In combination with the Audi drive select dynamic handling system, the suspension is available with adaptive damper control (optional for the S3 models), which simultaneously lowers the body by 10 millimetres. Each damper permanently adapts to the road condition, the driving situation, and the settings in Audi drive select, creating a wide spread between highly comfortable roll motion and agile handling. With the sport suspension – standard in conjunction with the S line trim or optional with the Sports Package – the focus is clearly on dynamics. Due to the tauter tuning of the suspension and dampers and the fact that the vehicle is lowered by 15 millimetres, the new A3 conveys an even more direct contact with the road surface.

Well versed: the driver assist systems

Equipped with the optional Audi pre sense front, the parking assist, and the lane departure warning, the new A3 models help prevent accidents with other road users and offer a high level of safety. Further assist systems, such as the lane change and exit warnings as well as the cross traffic, are available also available.

Local packages: offering simplicity

The new Audi A3 range will offer the package concept as introduced on other new models launched in South Africa. The concept aims to reduce complexity when ordering a new vehicle, considering that a customer is generally faced with a long list of options to choose from. The A7 Sportback range now includes a sporty performance model in the S7 Sportback. While still representing the new Audi design language to a great extent and delivering on progressive exterior looks and technology, the new S7 Sportback includes a sporty and luxurious driving experience like no other.

Presence: the design

The Audi S7 Sportback is characterized by its striking, distinctive design and sophistication – outside and inside alike. Embracing the new Audi design language further emphasizes its sporty look along with a dynamically styled front trim, wide sills and rear diffuser with four tailpipe trims. Distinctive S trim elements in dark chrome and aluminium on the radiator grille lamellas, the front blade, the side air inlet, the exterior mirrors and the rear diffuser proclaim the sporty coupé’s sporty characteristics at a glance. The characteristic HD Matrix LED headlights with animated rear lights which are connected by a flat light strip sharpen the sportier design even further. The standard 21” wheels in an S-specific wheel design, infuse the S model with on-road presence.

“Designer loft”: an interior design with sporty-sophisticated aesthetics

Inside, the Audi S7 Sportback, a sophisticated and modern look awaits the driver: black colour schemes, sophisticatedly sporty inlays and colour-contrasting stitching that ramp up the sporty driving experience even further. In keeping with the interior design of the A7 range, the look is reduced and succinct. The Audi S7 Sportback comes with an extended range of standard equipment to enhance the interior comfort. Perfectly equipped for long distances: the comfort equipment

With the sporty four-door Coupé, comprehensive comfort and driver assistance equipment is available. As such, the driving experience expertly blends sportiness with long-distance capability. Specification options available include 360 degree camera, adaptive cruise control, night vision assistant, lane change warning and quattro with sports differential to name a few. The new Audi S7 Sportback is an excellent car for long-distance driving – among other reasons thanks to its rigid body structure which largely suppresses noise interference, its advanced aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, as well as its spacious interior and luggage compartment with a capacity of up to 1,390 litres.

“Clean power” – coasting for up to 40 seconds: the 48-volt mild-hybrid system

The mild-hybrid system (MHEV) on the new Audi S7 Sportback helps to improve fuel efficiency. The 48-volt MHEV system comprises a belt alternator starter (BAS) and a lithium‑ion battery with a capacity of 10 Ah housed in the vehicle floor beneath the luggage compartment. The BAS is connected to the crankshaft. During deceleration it can recover up to 8 kW of power, which it then stores in the lithium-ion battery. When the driver accelerates again, the BAS reacts instantly by restarting the engine. MHEV technology allows for start/stop operation from a speed as low as 22 km/h. Thanks in part to the integration of the mild-hybrid system and the vehicle sensors, the S models realize a fuel saving of up to 0.4 litres in real driving conditions and can coast for up to 40 seconds with the combustion engine deactivated. On that basis, the S7 Sportback delivers impressive driving dynamics with high efficiency, low fuel consumption and low emissions.

Concentrated high tech: the engine

The 3.0 TFSI engine is notable for its power delivery and efficiency. It produces 331 kW of power and its specific torque is 600 Nm. Transmission is controlled via a tiptronic gearbox. Top speed is governed at 250 km/h and acceleration is stated at 4.6 seconds.

Dynamic cornering and high agility: Dynamic all-wheel steering

As on every S model from Audi, quattro permanent all-wheel drive comes as standard on the Audi S7 Sportback. In normal driving conditions, its self-locking centre differential distributes torque between the front and rear axle in a 40:60 ratio. If one wheel encounters slip, most of the drive torque goes to the axle with the better traction. In the extreme, 70 percent can flow to the front wheels and 85 percent to the rear wheels. For sports driving, wheel-selective torque control enhances sporty handling: It brakes the two wheels with reduced load on the inside of a bend slightly before they lose grip. The standard-fit progressive steering already comes with sports ratios in its basic configuration; the greater the steering lock, the more direct the steering is. Its S-specific electro-mechanical servo assistance filters out disagreeable bumps but communicates useful information to the driver. As an option, dynamic all-wheel steering is available – this combines dynamic steering with a variable ratio of 9.5:1 and 16.5:1 at the front axle with separate rear-axle steering that is operated by spindle drive and track rods. At speeds up to 60 km/h, the rear wheels turn as much as five degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels. This reduces the turning circle by up to 1.1 metres. At medium and high speeds above 60 km/h, they are turned by as much as two degrees in the same direction as the front wheels. This makes the S7 Sportback much more maneuverable and agile at low speeds, and provides more directional stability at high speeds and when changing lanes. The S sport suspension on the Audi S7 Sportback comes with damping control as standard, again highlighting the vehicle’s sporty character. It lowers the body of the vehicle by 10 millimetres. Adaptive air suspension – the air suspension version with adjustable damping – makes its appearance on the vehicle as an explicitly comfort-oriented alternative. It can be set to three modes and includes a “lift” position for poor roads and automatic levelling. In the “auto” mode the body is lowered by a further 10 millimetres (at speeds of 120 km/h) upwards, and in the “dynamic” mode the vehicle remains always at this low ride height. For even sportier road behaviour, quattro drive can be supplemented with the sport differential on the rear axle. On bends taken dynamically, the sport differential veritably pushes the car into the bend, producing a high level of agility. The driver can adapt the sport differential’s control strategy via Audi drive select. The sporty road behaviour is also aided by the five-link-design axles, which are made largely from aluminium. Two subframes connect the links with the vehicle body – the elastokinematics are firmly tuned. The driver can also configure the Audi drive select system to suit their driving preference. The system comes with an S-specific setup and offers the diverse modes “comfort”, “auto”, “dynamic”, “efficiency” and “individual.”

One month before the beginning of the new season in Diriyah (Saudi Arabia), Formula E is launching the new edition of its virtual championship: Under the title of “Formula E Accelerate,” the participants will compete against each other on the simulator from January 28. Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler is entering Kelvin van der Linde, South African born and professional race driver from the Audi family.

More than 70 million video views in 150 markets, plus several thousand articles in online and print media – the first edition of the virtual Formula E championship was already a huge success last year. Now, the championship is returning as “Formula E Accelerate” with even more taken from the real world of Formula E, such as Attack Mode and energy management. It kicks off on January 28, followed by five more events until the finale on March 25.

“I’m really looking forward to representing Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler in the virtual world,” says Kelvin van der Linde. The 24-year-old South African has been part of the Audi family for years and is also involved in the brand’s Formula E project. He supports the regular drivers by working in the race simulator and was also a driver at the 2020 Formula E rookie test in Marrakesh.

“In February and March, it’s still a bit quieter on the real race tracks, so it’s a great opportunity to put on a good show in other ways for the fans at home. Last year, I also competed virtually against the Formula E drivers and now it’s against real eSports racers. I’m excited to see how we will do.” In Formula E Accelerate, Kelvin van der Linde will be competing against both nominated drivers from the other teams and the best drivers from an open qualifier held online in recent weeks. One of these eSports drivers is Manuel Biancolilla. The 20-year-old Italian finished third in the elimination rounds and has already gained experience in the Formula 1 eSports series. In the coming weeks, he will be competing as the second driver for Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, alongside Kelvin van der Linde.

Each of the Formula E Accelerate races, which last for around 25 minutes, will be broadcast as part of a 90-minute TV show that also features Formula E drivers, team principals and other guests. For example, the team principal of Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, Allan McNish, will also be broadcast live from his home in Monaco from 9:00 p.m. (CAT) on January 28. All of the events will be shown live on the Formula E’s social media channels and streaming platforms.

And now, Audi has made it even better and even more attractive with a refreshed facelift. The optimized Q5 now combines a sporty character with excellent everyday usability and versatility. The sharpened exterior design of this highly successful model now emphasizes the Audi Q SUV identity and boasts a rear light cluster featuring digital OLED technology, for the first time.

The exterior design: Audi Q design language now even more distinctive

The strong Q identity characterizes the exterior of the refreshed Audi Q5 with its expression of power, robustness and safety. In executing the exterior update, Audi designers further emphasized this look and feel with a series of distinctive details. The octagonal Singleframe is now shallower and appears wider than before. The side air intakes have grown in height and are now structured by trapezoidal insets. The upper section of the LED headlamps features a new signature for the daytime running lights. Viewed from the side, the Q5 now has a lighter look with greater ground clearance thanks to the redesigned sill insert. At the rear end is a new trim element between the light clusters and a new diffusor insert with a horizontal fin. In addition to the standard trim there are also two other design trim lines. The Advanced model comes with chromed vertical ribs in the Singleframe, along with under-ride guards beneath the front and rear bumpers in silver finish instead of black. The S line model comprises a sportier honeycomb structure in the Singleframe and a chrome strip framing the rear diffusor. Both Advanced and S line models also include the high gloss styling package as standard which adds more distinctive design elements to the exterior look of the cars with the roof frame and window slot strips in anodized aluminium.

Two of the twelve available paint colours are new – district green and ultra blue. The black appearance package is available as an option on the Advanced, S line and S models and sets expressive accents through black painted areas on the Singleframe, the trim strips on the side windows and the front and rear bumpers. Exterior mirror housings in black are available at additional cost while black roof rails are available as a no cost option.

The interior design: a light touch and first-class quality

The horizontal emphasis of the interior design conveys a feeling of breadth and lightness. The sculptural, elegant sweep of the trim inlay separates the lower and upper sections of the dashboard, with the focal point formed by the new freestanding MMI touch display with acoustic feedback. The previous rotary/push control on the centre-tunnel console is absent, its place now occupied by a storage cubby.

World first: digital OLED technology in the rear lights of the Audi Q5The cockpit of Next-generation OLED lighting technology is available for the first time ever in the modified Q5. OLEDs are extremely efficient organic light-emitting diodes that generate a homogenous light surface. The optional OLED rear light is split into three tiles of six segments each, which enables Audi designers and developers to create different light designs and signatures from a single item of hardware.

Audi Q5 customers can enjoy a rear-light signature animation for the coming and leaving home function. On switching the Audi drive select mode to “dynamic”, the lights change to yet another signature. The OLED rear-light cluster is also equipped with proximity detection: If a road user approaches a stationary Q5 from the rear to within less than two metres, all the OLED segments light up. When the Q5 starts to move, it returns to the original light signature. The prerequisite for the proximity detection function is that the car has one of the tow assistance systems – either Adaptive Cruise Control or Active Lane Assist – on board. The full spectrum of the OLED rear lights is rounded off by dynamic turn indicators. The standard equipment for the Q5 is now LED headlamps, with matrix LED headlamps available as an option. Their intelligent, adaptable high beam offers greater safety and convenience without dazzling other road users.

Spacious and variable: dimensions and interior space

At 4.68 metres, the redesigned Audi Q5 is now 19 millimetres longer – due primarily to its larger bumpers. Its width (excluding mirrors) of 1.89 metres and height of 1.66 metres remain unchanged. The long wheelbase of 2.82 metres facilitates spacious interior proportions. Audi’s sliding rear bench plus with adjustable backrests is available as an option and enables a luggage space of 580 to 1,580 litres. With the normal rear bench, the luggage space measures 520 to 1,520 litres. A variable folding floor mat is optionally available and a power tailgate is standard on the Q5. Thanks to its intelligent material mix, the Q5 has one of the lightest body shells in the segment, while the cd figure of 0.30 is among the best-in-class. Refined aero-acoustics make for an exceptionally quiet interior.

Control, infotainment and Audi connect: first-class connectivity

Behind the new control setup in the updated Audi Q5 is a new main unit – the third-generation Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB 3), which offers ten times the computing power of its predecessor, the MIB 2.

Its basis is a conventional dashboard with a centrally positioned driver information system. The top of the range is the Audi virtual cockpit plus – a high-resolution 12.3-inch digital display with three different graphic layouts – is optionally available with the Technology package. The driver controls the displays via the multifunction steering wheel. Audi smartphone interface is now standard throughout the range. A head-up display is also available as an option.

The central 10.1-inch MMI touch display is standard equipment in the Q5. Its menu structure with flat hierarchies makes it extremely easy to use, and is searchable using free text. The driver has the choice of entering characters and letters manually or via voice control, which understands a vast array of everyday terms.

The Audi connect online services network the Audi Q5 closely with the internet and traffic infrastructure. The navigation system offers high-resolution satellite images and traffic forecasts. The car-to-x services provided by Audi connect make for even more relaxed driving – helping, for example, to find available parking spots or using online search to guide on destination information (e.g. trading times). The myAudi app connects the user’s smartphone to the car and provides a suite of convenience and safety functions on the go.

A wide assortment of personal settings – from frequently used navigation destinations, seating positions to preferred air-conditioning levels – can be saved in six user profiles, adding to additional driver convenience.

Driveline: powerful performance, low emissions

The upgraded premium SUV comes to market in South Africa in two engine offerings. The Audi Q5 40 TDI. Its powerful two-litre four-cylinder diesel generates 140 kW and 400 Nm of torque. The Audi Q5 40 TDI accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.

The second engine in the range is the Audi Q5 45 TFSI. Its 2.0-liter four-cylinder TFSI engine generates 183 kW and 370 Nm of torque. The Audi Q5 45 TFSI accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds. The mild hybrid system (MHEV) available on this model contributes to the low fuel consumption. A belt-driven starter/generator (BSG) supplies the 12-volt vehicle electrical system, which incorporates a compact lithium-ion battery. The BSG recuperates braking energy and stores it in the battery. The MHEV system enables the Audi Q5 45 TFSI to coast with the engine off, and allows for start-stop mode at speeds below 22 km/h. Overall, this results in a fuel-efficiency improvement of approx. 0.3 litres per 100 kilometres.

Both models are powered by a seven-speed S tronic that sends the engine power to the quattro all-wheel drive with ultra-technology, which also contributes to efficiency. In normal operation, it sends all the power to the front wheels. If all-wheel drive becomes necessary e.g. in slippery conditions or during dynamic driving, two clutches connect the rear wheels to the driveline in fractions of a second – in many situations, this happens predictively. In terms of traction and performance, the system leaves nothing to be desired.

The running gear: even more comfort and agility

Both sporty and comfortable – the well-balanced running gear is a great strength of the Audi Q5. The multilink suspension front and rear are exceptionally lightweight, thus improving not only handling, but also efficiency. Available as an option for the Q5 is Audi’s dynamic steering, which varies its ratio by up to 100 percent in accordance with speed and steering angle.

Q5 customers can choose from different setup options. The sports suspension offers an alternative to the standard suspension and is an option for all models except the S line model, in which it is standard. The standard suspension with steel springs is also available with damper control and delivers a broad spread between comfortable and dynamic. As well as damper control, the adaptive air suspension can also vary the ground clearance of the body in five stages, which makes it an exceptionally good match for the Q5.

The Audi drive select handling system, which influences the characteristics of several technical components, is part of the standard equipment package. The driver can choose from up to seven profiles, including off-road and all-road (with air suspension). The hill descent assistant provides support on steep inclines. The Audi Q5 runs as standard on 19-inch alloy wheels with an option to upgrade to 20-inch wheel designs.

Sporty, powerful, and efficient: SQ5 TFSI

Even sharper, sportier, and more efficient: The optimized Audi SQ5 TFSI now looks even more impressive with a powerful stance and striking details that give it an even more rugged appearance. Vertical fins provide structure to the large side air inlets on the front bumpers. In the octagonal Singleframe grille that is specific to the S models, large octagonal honeycomb sections are linked by narrow bars. These have an aluminium finish, as do the fins on the air inlets.

At the rear, a matte aluminium strip is integrated in the lower bumpers, below which are the diffuser insert and four chromium-plated oval tailpipe trims. Customers have a choice of nine exterior paint finishes. The black styling package, which adds sporty accents, is available on request .Its V6 three-litre petrol engine with an output of 260 kW and 500 Nm of torque delivers its power smoothly and forcefully. It accelerates the top model of the Q5 product line from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. An actuator in the exhaust system, gives the V6 a sonorous sound.

No other Audi is closer to motor racing: The Audi R8 is the dynamic spearhead and the fastest volume-production model of the Audi Sport brand. The revised version of the high-performance sports car as a Coupé and Spyder hosts an even sharper design. VIP customer deliveries of the Audi R8 V10 performance quattro have officially begun in South Africa as part of a pre-launch strategy ahead of the performance sports car’s official retail launch from 1 April 2021.

Power and torque: the engine

Instant response, lightning-fast high-revving and a unique sound – the V10 naturally aspirated engine is the heart of the Audi R8. The 5.2 FSI in the Audi R8 V10 performance quattro continues to offer 449 kW, with a peak torque of 560 Nm. The Coupé sprints to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, and the Spyder takes 3.3 seconds. The propulsive power ends at 3310/329 km/h. The V10 naturally aspirated engines with 5.2 litres of displacement come standard with the R8 sports exhaust system. The transmission is a 7-speed S tronic gearbox.

Razor sharp precision: the driving experience

The performance sports suspension continues to deliver effortless precision and response. The assistance is in turn delivered with both the optional dynamic steering and the standard electromechanical power steering. The steering response is direct and precise throughout the entire speed range. This ensures optimum steering sensitivity with continuously good road contact in every driving situation. Dynamic steering uses a superposition gear to change the gear ratio between 10.5:1 and 15.8:1 depending on the driving speed; the steering is very direct during maneuvering, while it is calm and smooth on the highway. In Performance mode, the driving characteristic is on a considerably more direct level in comparison to the Comfort or Auto modes. To ensure particularly precise handling in the threshold range, the gear ratio is constant (i = 14:1) in Performance mode as from approximately 140 km/h.

In addition to the well-known Audi drive select modes, the three additional programs dry, wet and snow form part of the Performance mode on the R8 V10 performance quattro. They adapt the key dynamic parameters to the friction coefficient of the road. Thanks to the enhanced Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC), the Audi R8 V10 performance brakes from 100 km/h to a standstill up to 1.5 metres earlier; the stopping distance from 200 km/his up to five metre shorter – in each case depending on the exterior conditions. The facelifted Audi R8 is equipped with factory-installed 20-inch Audi Sport wheels V-spoke Evo design wheels in two colour options – titanium (standard)or matte bronze. An alternative 20-inch 5-double spoke dynamic style alloy wheel in anthracite black is also available. Ceramic brakes as well as red calipers are a standard feature. The stabilizer at the front axle is optionally made from carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and aluminium, which cuts weight at the front axle by around two kilograms.

Sharper and tauter: the design

The honed character of the new R8 models also becomes clear visually. The Singleframe radiator grille is even wider and flatter. In combination with the dimmed headlights and adjoining design elements, the R8 looks even sharper. Winglets at the side divide the large air inlets and the flat slits above the Singleframe radiator grille are reminiscent of the Audi Sport quattro. The new front splitter is now wider, underscoring the sporty look. The air inlet grille spans the entire width of the rear end. The diffuser is even more dominant and frames the new oval exhaust tailpipes. The air filter is situated in the engine compartment under a new three-part cover. It is available in a choice of plastic or carbon fibre.

Audi R8 customers can enjoy the standard high-gloss black styling package as a sporty exterior look to their sports car. The front splitter, the sill trims and diffuser are all finished off in black accents, with an option to upgrade the exterior look to the gloss carbon RS exterior parts which creates an aggressively sportier look. The Audi rings and badges on the exterior are painted in high-gloss black and are complemented by the standard carbon exterior mirror housings and sideblade. The new metallic colours of Kemora grey and Ascari blue are recent additions to the updated paint range. The Audi exclusive program allows customers to have any paint colours blended according to their wishes. There are three variants and the customized paint finish to choose from for the sideblades (carbon, Kendo grey or Mythos black), and there are three colours for the fabric top of the Spyder (black, red or brown). LED headlamps and rear lights with dynamic turn signals and high-beam control are standard with an option to upgrade to the Audi laser light at an extra cost.

The new look extends to the interior of the Audi R8 with its driver focus orientation. New options here include the R8 sports seat with fine Nappa leather and diamond stitching as standard. Customers are able to select between the upholstery colours of red, white or black.

The operating concept, the Audi virtual cockpit and the MMI

The driver sits in the new Audi R8 like in a race car. The entire operating concept focuses on the driver alone, who can operate all key functions without having to take their hands off the steering wheel or look away from the road. The R8 performance multifunction steering wheel plus integrates three satellite buttons in addition to its push-buttons for the MMI. One is used to start and stop the engine, the second is used to select the basic modes of Audi drive select and the third for the performance programs. In the operating concept of the new Audi R8, two standard-fit high-tech modules are merged into one unit: The information from the MMI navigation plus is shown in the revised Audi virtual cockpit. It has a 12.3-inch display and the driver can use the “View” button on the steering wheel to switch between views. The performance screen is dominated by a large tachometer. Different gages can be positioned around it, for example for output, torque, G-forces, lap times, engine and transmission oil temperatures, tyre pressure and temperature. The MMI operating system is characterized by a flat menu structure that is easy to understand. The MMI search operates with free text input and the voice control system understands many phrases used in everyday language. It is operated via the MMI terminal, using the rotary push-button on the console of the centre tunnel. The MMI touch, which is positioned on its surface, is used for inputting characters, scrolling, and zooming. The driver can also control almost all functions via the steering wheel. The Audi phone box and Smartphone Interface are additional standard features which enhance the interior comfort and technology to the new Audi R8 cabin experience.

Impressive performance: the drive system

As a V8 engine with mild hybrid technology, the high-performance power-plant in the Audi S8 offers not only maximum smoothness but sublime responsiveness, with an output of 420 kW and 800 Nm of torque, delivered with the aid of two turbochargers. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h and it takes just 3.8 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h. Iron-lined cylinder barrels in the aluminium crankcase reduce friction for exceptionally smooth running. Automatically actuated flaps in the exhaust system underscore the impressive sound. Sports car-level emotion and performance are paired with comfort and efficiency. The mild hybrid system (MHEV) works continuously to reduce fuel consumption. Its 48-volt belt alternator starter and the additional lithium-ion battery enable coasting with the engine switched off, fast restart and an extended start-stop range. Fuel savings of up to 0.8 litres per 100 kilometres are possible in everyday driving. The cylinder on demand system, which deactivates individual cylinders in low-load operating situations, provides for additional efficiency. Vehicle dynamics: predictive active suspension, dynamic all-wheel steering, and quattro with sport differential

The unique combination of innovative suspension components enables the flagship to cover the entire range from the velvety cruising of a luxury sedan to the dynamically taut handing of a sports car. The new S8 comes standard with the predictive active suspension. The high-tech system, which works in combination with the air suspension, can lift or push down each wheel separately via electromechanical actuators. It is therefore possible for the first time to actively control the trim of the body in any driving situation and thus greatly reduce pitch or roll during acceleration or braking. The front camera, which detects larger road surface irregularities, enables this to be done predictively.

The new Audi S8 can be a highly comfortable luxury sedan or a truly dynamic sports car – it’s entirely up to the driver. The Audi drive select system offers five profiles from which to choose. “Comfort +” mode is a new profile. It makes even cornering a comfortable experience: The body leans into curves by as much as 3 degrees to reduce the lateral acceleration acting on the occupants. In “dynamic” mode, the S8 turns in precisely. The maximum roll angle during fast cornering is just roughly 2.5 degrees. With the standard suspension, it is around 5 degrees. The situational distribution of roll moments enables self-steering that is neutral or minimally oversteering. The position of the S8’s body can be altered even when it is stationary. It is quickly raised by as much as 50 mm when the door handle is actuated, making getting into the car even easier and more comfortable.

The Audi S8 is redefining the limits of physical possibility thanks to the dynamic-all-wheel steering. This allows the independent adjustment of the steering angles at the front and rear axles. It therefore combines direct, sporty steering response at low and medium speeds with supreme stability on the highway and a tight turning circle, thus resolving a long-standing conflict of objectives. The sport differential actively transfers torque between the rear wheels during fast cornering. When turning into or accelerating in a curve, most is directed to the outside wheel. This literally pushes the car into the curve and nips any hint of understeer in the bud. In the case of oversteer, the sport differential on the rear axle transfers the drive torque to the inside wheel to stabilize the S8. Dynamic all-wheel steering, the sport differential and the predictive active suspension are all standard equipment.

The interplay of these systems is unique in its class and ensures composed and sporty handling in all situations. Precise expression of sporty elegance: the design. The progressive, elegantly flowing exterior design gets some new accents with the new Audi S8. Bold interior and exterior design elements finely hone the sporty character. Wheels of 21 inches in diameter are available for the 5.18 metre long sports sedan. Details on the front bumper, side sills and the exterior mirror housings as well as the two S-typical twin oval exhaust tailpipes emphasize the car’s sporty and progressive character. The black styling package is also available as an option. With this, all chrome elements (matte aluminium styling package is standard on the sports model) – right down to the tailpipe trims – come in high-gloss black. The upper inlay – new and available exclusively in the Audi S8 – is made of Carbon Vector and impresses with a special 3D depth effect. Progressive and state-of-the-art: the equipment

Every detail of the new Audi S8 reflects its character as a sporty luxury model. One particular highlight is the standard individually contoured comfort sports seats. While the tachometer and speedometer are displayed as large dial-type gages in driving mode, the map is the centre of attention in infotainment mode. Both views have S-specific red graphical details.

A special S-performance layout for the Audi virtual cockpit plus where the central focus is the tachometer, displayed as a square graph, and the output and torque are shown as percentages can also be selected in the MMI. The standard head-up display can display important information on the windshield. MMI navigation plus serves as the infotainment and media centre in the new S8. The extensive Audi connect functionality is integrated into the new sedan. It includes numerous car-to-X services that draw on the swarm intelligence of the Audi fleet. The downloadable myAudi app connects the car to the customer’s smartphone so that they can easily send destinations to the car from their couch as well as enjoy a host of other infotainment, safety and remote features. The standard Audi smartphone interface brings Android Auto and wirelessly Apple Car Play on board. Audi presents the new edition of the RS Q3 and an all-new derivative with the RS Q3 Sportback, now extending the compact SUV product range with two performance models. The two sport compacts offer outstanding performance, athletic design and maximum everyday usability. The first Audi RS Q3 established its own distinct position in the performance market and with the new generation and additional model, Audi aims to continue this success story in the compact high-performance SUV segment of the market. With the offering of the all-new Audi RS Q3 Sportback, a progressive SUV coupé crossover, Audi envisions to set a trend and leverage the full potential of the latest performance vehicle range. Athletic: the exterior

The Audi RS Q3 and Audi RS Q3 Sportback are synonymous with strength and outstanding performance. Virtues that are also reflected in the design. The Singleframe with no colour-contrasting surround in the compact SUV creates an even sharper impression. The gloss black grill with three-dimensional honeycomb structure is inset deeper and directly into the RS bumper with its large side air inlets. The striking boomerang-shaped blades in the bumper are designed exclusively for the RS Q3. The RS genes are also apparent in the flat slits above the Singleframe radiator grille.

With its downward sloping coupé-like roof line, the RS Q3 Sportback is with a height of 1,557 millimetres, 45 millimetres lower than the RS Q3. The rising shoulder line on the Sportback is set farther down than on the sister model, lowering the body’s optical centre of gravity. As such, the body appears even more muscular and the wheels larger. Both high-performance sports cars underscore their performance aspiration with pronounced muscles over the wheel arches, which have been flared by 10 millimetres.

The rear design also appears very powerful. With the low rear window and the roof edge spoiler with RS-specific spoiler lip in body colour, the RS Q3 Sportback appears even wider than its sister model. The low-slung roof line culminates in strong, flat sloping D-pillars. The RS-specific long roof edge spoiler in the RS Q3 emphasizes the pronounced forward thrust of the high-performance SUV and ensures improved downforce. This exhaust system sits in an RS-specific bumper with rear diffuser. The high-performance SUVs come standard with Matrix LED headlights with dynamic indicators and RS-specific darkened trims. The rear lights also feature LED technology.

Outstanding: the drive

Within the Audi Q3 family, the RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback are the sporty flagships. The performance figures for the compact engines are compelling: five-cylinder, 294 kW power output, 480 Nm of torque, quattro all-wheel drive. The five-cylinder engine is a modern classic. Last year, Audi received the sought-after “International Engine of the Year Award” for the 2.5 TFSI engine for the ninth consecutive time. The multi-award-winning five-cylinder engine gains a good 17 percent increase in power at an unchanged displacement of 2,480 cc. The engine’s maximum torque is available over the very broad rev range between 1,950 and 5,850 rpm. The RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The top speed is regulated at 250 km/h or an optional 280 km/h at an additional cost.

At less than 50 centimetre’s in length, the 2.5 TFSI engine is extremely compact and is 26 kg lighter than the previous model. Its crankcase is made of aluminium, which alone saves 18 kg. Elaborate measures reduce internal friction while at the same time increasing power output. The cylinder liners are plasma-coated; the crankshaft main bearings are six millimetres smaller in diameter. The crankshaft is hollow bored and is therefore 1 kg lighter, while the aluminium pistons have integrated channels for oil cooling. In the short warm-up phase after a cold start, the switchable water pump does not circulate the coolant in the cylinder head – the 2.5 TFSI engine thus reaches its operating temperature more quickly. This lowers the coefficient of friction and reduces fuel consumption.

1-2-4-5-3 – firing alternates between adjacent cylinders and those far apart from one another. The particular firing sequence and the odd number of cylinders make for a very special rhythm and unique engine sound. The RS sports exhaust system underscores the characteristic and unmistakable sound of the five-cylinder firing sequence.

The power from the five-cylinder engine flows via a seven-speed S tronic to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive that distributes the power as needed between the axles via a multi-plate clutch. The wheel‑selective torque control perfects the safe and agile handling.

The Audi drive select dynamic handling system influences the quattro drive and other components such as steering, suspension, S tronic, engine characteristic and sound. Depending on the selected equipment variant, there is a choice of five or six modes: comfort, auto, dynamic, efficiency and individual or, as an alternative to the individual mode, the two new RS modes RS1 and RS2. Via the MMI the driver can adjust and save the two RS modes individually. Simply pressing the new “RS MODE” steering wheel button provides rapid access to the two new modes and allows the driver to switch between modes.

Consistently sporty: the suspension

The standard RS sport suspension lowers the body by 10 millimetres compared with the Audi Q3 and Q3 Sportback. Its consistently sporty tuning satisfies the basic requirements for the outstanding handling of the two sport compacts. The standard RS-tuned progressive steering also conveys close contact with the road even on fast bends.

At the front axle with its MacPherson design featuring lower wishbones, the track width is 1,590 millimetres. In the rear, the four-link design provides a track width of 1,583 millimetres. For the first time on a compact high-performance SUV, Audi offers 21-inch wheels in various rim designs. Behind the standard 21-inch wheels, the all-new six-piston RS steel brake system works with ventilated and perforated disks measuring 375 millimetres (front) and 310 millimetres (rear, not perforated). Their brake calipers are painted red as standard.

As an option the new RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback are available with the RS sport suspension plus with Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC). Here an electrically actuated proportional valve regulates the flow of oil into the damper pistons. The Audi drive select dynamic handling system also influences the optional RS sport suspension plus with damper control, in which sensors measure movements of the vehicle body. The RS-tuned dampers are then adjusted accordingly to the road surface conditions and driving situation. The suspension provides the optimum damping force for each damper within milliseconds – low for hard bumps; high to brace the body during fast cornering or when braking. The upshot is enhanced driving dynamics, precise stability and agile handling coupled with even greater comfort.

Driver-oriented: the interior

The athletic design of the exterior is echoed in the car’s interior. The emphasis on the horizontal lines conveys a generous sense of space. The air-conditioning control unit, the centre console and the MMI touch display are tilted toward the driver by ten degrees – the entire cockpit is very much designed with the driver in mind. The architecture of the instrument panel with the Audi virtual cockpit in the RS design harmonizes perfectly with the operating concept. The MMI touch display with its high-gloss black glass-look surround slots in seamlessly as another central element. With the standard Audi virtual cockpit plus, the driver has a larger display with shift light display that prompts the driver to upshift when the maximum engine speed is reached. Special RS displays in the Audi virtual cockpit plus also provide information on tyre pressure, torque, power output, lap times, g-forces and acceleration measurements. RS Sport seat plus in fine Nappa leather with honeycomb stitching express the athletic character of the RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback. Integrated head restraints are available for the first time in the Q3 family. Their contrasting stitching comes standard in gloss black, and optionally in red or blue. When selecting one of the two RS styling packages in Express red or Ara blue, highlights on the steering wheel rim, belt straps, floor mats and gear lever are coloured while the steering wheel and selector lever come in Alcantara. Inlays in Aluminium Race, anthracite, optionally in piano finish, black, or carbon, round out the sporty interior.

Entry lighting with Audi Sport projection in the doors welcomes the driver and front passenger. RS logos adorn the interior on the steering wheel and the illuminated front door sill trims. The standard RS sport leather steering wheel, flattened at the bottom, including newly designed shift paddles comes with multifunction buttons that allow the driver to control the two optional RS modes in the Audi drive select dynamic handling system. The RS-specific displays open automatically in the Audi virtual cockpit plus.

Generous: space concept and equipment

The new RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback are designed as fully fledged five-seater models and also offer maximum everyday usability for all their sportiness. The rear seats can be moved fore-aft as standard by 150 millimetres in the RS Q3 or 130 millimetres in the RS Q3 Sportback; their three-way split backrests can be tilted in seven stages. The luggage compartment holds 530 litres, with the backrests folded down the figure rises to 1,525 litres (Sportback: 1,400 litres).

Eight paint colours are available for the new RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback, including the RS-specific colours Kyalami green and Nardo grey. Customized paint finishes are available from Audi exclusive. The optional gloss black styling package adds highlights to blades in front- and rear bumper, window slot trims, roof rails (RS Q3 only) and on the insert in the side sills. In combination with the extended gloss black styling package, the Audi rings and the RS logos come in black on the front and rear.

Audi has refined the RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback to make it even more suitable for everyday use. Thereby integrating incredible performance with outstanding design and practicality in producing two performance vehicles for the discerning customer. The Audi RS 6 Avant is in its fourth generation and continues to mark its iconic status while the Audi RS7 Sportback in its second generation endures a stunning design. Both models will officially retail in South Africa from 1 April 2021.

Innovative: the exterior design

The body style, which is unique in its segment, proves alluring the moment you set eyes on the new Audi RS 6 Avant, even when stationary. The body, which has been widened around 40 millimetres on each side with its broad flared wheel arches, emphasizes the distinctive character of the high-performance Avant. The new Audi RS 7 Sportback sits low to the ground. The extreme width is no optical illusion – at 1,950 millimetres at the front fenders, the performance model is an extra 40 millimetres or so wider than the base model. Its RS-specific exterior design gives the 5,009 millimetre grand tourer a character all of its own. 

The entire front-end of both models are differentiated to the maximum. In addition to the new hood together with power dome, the performance models adopt a flatter, sportier headlight structure which offer HD Matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light and darkened trims as a standard feature. The lights feature a dynamic turn signal along with an exciting RS-specific sequencing when the vehicle is locked and unlocked.

The three-dimensional honeycomb structure within the Singleframe grill is finished in gloss black. In combination with the much flatter and wider geometry, this reinforces the athletic look of the two performance models. The Singleframe surround and the quattro logo in the bumper have been eliminated. Below the headlights, side air inlets open on the strikingly drawn new RS bumper and extend almost into the lower edge of the headlights. The designers have taken their cue from the front-end of the Audi R8 supercar.

The characteristic Avant silhouette dominates in the side view of the RS 6 – elongated front section, long, straight roofline and flat D pillars, which rest on the quattro blisters. The RS-specific sills with black inserts visually emphasize on the flanks the pronounced forward thrust. The dynamic rear-end consists of the roof edge spoiler and an RS-specific bumper with rear diffuser and design elements in gloss black. In hallmark RS style, the RS exhaust system flows on both sides into oval chrome-coloured tailpipes – an RS sport exhaust system with black tailpipes is standard. The side view of the new Audi RS 7 Sportback reveals sharply defined lines and curved surfaces like well-toned muscles. A low shoulder line shifts the visual emphasis downward, while the window line rises toward the rear, giving a sense of dynamism even when the vehicle is stationary. The RS-specific door sills with black inlays accentuate the high-performance Sportback’s distinct impression of forward movement. The rear end’s curved trailing edge and strip of lights linking the main rear lights make it one of the characteristic defining features of the RS 7 Sportback. At a speed of 100 km/h, a spoiler will extend from the tailgate. The RS exhaust system, with a large, chrome-coloured oval tailpipe on each side, sits beneath an RS-specific bumper with a rear diffuser and design elements in gloss black.

V8 power: the drive system

The 4.0 TFSI in the new Audi RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback produces 441 kW and delivers 800 Nm of torque within a broad range from 2,050 to 4,500 rpm. The high-performance models will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.6 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h; this can be increased to 280 km/h with the RS Dynamic package.

Thanks to its mild hybrid system (MHEV) with a 48-volt main on-board electrical system, the 4.0 TFSI combines maximum performance with high efficiency. The belt alternator starter can recover up to 12 kW power under gentle acceleration and feed it into a lithium-ion battery as electricity. If the driver releases the accelerator at a speed between 55 and 160 km/, the drive management will select one of two options. Depending on the driving situation and the settings in Audi drive select, the vehicle will either recover energy or coast with the engine switched off. When the driver steps on the accelerator, the belt alternator starter will start the engine again. MHEV technology allows for start-stop mode at speeds below 22 km/h. As soon as the vehicle in front of the performance model starts moving, the engine will spring back to life—even if the brakes are applied. With the MHEV-technology it is possible to reduce fuel consumption by as much as 0.8 litres per 100 kilometres.

The cylinder on demand (COD) system is another weapon in the vehicle’s armoury when it comes to efficiency. In higher gears at low to medium loads and engine speeds, it will deactivate cylinders 2, 3, 5, and 8 by halting injection and ignition and closing the intake and exhaust valves. In four-cylinder mode, the operating points will switch to the active cylinders at higher loads, thereby improving efficiency, while the deactivated cylinders continue to run like gas springs, largely without any losses. When the driver presses the accelerator pedal, they are reactivated immediately. Each switchover takes mere milliseconds and is virtually undetectable by the driver and passengers.

The four-litre engine produces a full-bodied and sporty V8 sound. The Audi drive select dynamic handling system allows adjustments to the sonorous growl of the power unit. The standard RS sport exhaust system with black tailpipe trim provides an even fuller sound. In the customizable RS1 and RS2 modes, customers can decide for themselves whether they want a sporty or balanced sound.

The power produced by the 4.0 TFSI flows via the standard eight-speed tiptronic transmission with optimized shift times and a new launch control function to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. Drive forces are distributed to the front and rear axles in a 40:60 ratio via the purely mechanical centre differential. If one wheel slips, more drive torque automatically goes to the axle with the better traction. Up to 70 percent can flow to the front wheels and up to 85 percent to the back wheels. The wheel-selective torque control optimizes the agile and confident handling of the new performance models, applying the brakes gently to the wheels on the inside of a bend before they have the chance to slip. The quattro sport differential, available with the optional Dynamic and Dynamic package, shifts the torque between the rear wheels as needed during sporty cornering, thereby improving traction, stability, and dynamics.

Agility: the suspension

On the new performance models, the front and rear axles use a five-link design to handle the induced longitudinal and transverse forces separately. The linkages and the subframes are made largely of aluminium. The track width is 1,668 millimetres front and 1,650 millimetres rear.

The standard RS adaptive air suspension with controlled damping was tuned specifically for the RS models and can be set to several modes and includes automatic level control. The body of the new RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback is 20 millimetres lower than on the base models with standard suspension; at speeds of 120 km/h and above, it is lowered by another 10 millimetres. A lift mode raises the vehicle by 20 millimetres at low speed. The very wide spread of the RS sport air suspension offers the driver a free choice between long-distance comfort and maximum performance.

The performance models comes standard with the sporty progressive steering with its direct ratio. The system develops significantly higher return forces with increasing steering angle for precise steering feedback. Its newly developed power assist directly connects the driver and road. Optionally with the RS dynamic package, the models comes with dynamic all-wheel steering. It combines dynamic steering at the front axle, which uses an infinitely variable strain wave gearing, with a separate rear axle steering system with a spindle drive and track rods. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn as much as five degrees in the opposite direction relative to the front wheels. This reduces the turning circle by as much as one metre, making the performance models more agile in city traffic and tight curves. At intermediate and high speeds, the rear wheels turn by as much as two degrees in the same direction – promoting stability particularly when changing course quickly.

The driver can change the character of their RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback using the Audi drive select dynamic handling system. Six profiles are available: comfort, auto, dynamic, efficiency, and the individually configurable RS-specific RS1 and RS2 modes, which can be activated directly using the “RS MODE” steering wheel button. This automatically opens the RS-specific displays in the Audi virtual cockpit. The Audi drive select dynamic handling system influences the engine and transmission management, the power steering, the suspension, the dynamic all-wheel steering, the quattro sport differential, the engine sound and the characteristics of the automatic air conditioning. The RS2 mode exists specifically to influence the Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) directly at the push of a button.

The performance models are fitted as standard with RS-specific wheels with a 22-inch 5-V-spoke design with 285/30 tyres in silver, matt titanium look, gloss turned finish, and gloss turned anthracite black finish. The calipers of the RS brake system with internally ventilated and perforated discs (420 millimetres at the front, 370 millimetres at the rear) are painted red as standard. On the optional RS ceramic brakes, the calipers can be blue. The discs measure 440 millimetre at the front and 370 millimetres at the rear. The new RS ceramic brake system tips the scales at 34 kilograms less than its steel counterpart, which cuts down on unsprung mass.

Sporty and futuristic: the interior

A stripped-down look with sporty accents are the key stylistic elements in the interior of the new Audi RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback. Much like the exterior design, the design language combines taut, sinewy surfaces with clearly defined contours. There is plenty of space for the driver and passenger, with the architecture of the interior accomplishing a seamless transition to the futuristic user interface. The upper MMI touch response display is embedded in the black-panelled architecture in a way that renders it almost impossible to see where the display ends and the surroundings begin. The driver can use the upper RS monitor display to call up an overview of drive system component temperatures, maximum g-forces and information regarding tyre pressures and temperatures. The Audi virtual cockpit is available as standard on both of these performance models and features the RS Performance and Sport layouts. The Audi virtual cockpit plus is available as an optional extra and features an all new layout called the RS Runway.

The special RS displays use the Audi virtual cockpit to provide details of tyre pressure, torque, performance, oil temperature, boost pressure, lap times, acceleration, and g-forces. The shift light display prompts the driver to upshift when the rev limit is reached.

The flat-bottomed, fully perforated RS sport leather steering wheel with new large RS aluminium shift paddles features steering wheel heating and multifunction buttons, which the driver can use to enable the new Audi drive select RS1 and RS2 modes. This automatically opens the RS-specific displays in the Audi virtual cockpit. The RS logos adorn the steering wheel, seats, and illuminated front door sill trims. Logo projectors on the front and rear doors beam the Audi Sport emblem onto the ground when the doors are open.

RS sport seats upholstered with Valcona leather, featuring a honeycomb pattern and RS embossing are fitted as standard. The RS design package brings a splash of colour, with contrasting red stitching on the Alcantara steering wheel rim, gear lever gaiter and knee pads. The package also features seat belt straps with red edging and RS floor mats.

The new RS 6 Avant is even roomier inside. The luggage compartment has a capacity of between 565 and 1,680 litres, the loading width between the wheel arches is now 1.05 metres, 14 millimetres larger than the previous model. The split-folding rear seat bench in the ratio 40:20:40 can be released and folded conveniently from the luggage compartment. A power tailgate and luggage compartment cover are standard. In combination with the standard comfort key, the sensor control allows the tailgate to be opened with a foot gesture. The optional swivelling trailer towing hitch features an electric release function.

The new RS 7 Sportback offers an array of extra functions not seen in the predecessor model. For the first time, Audi is offering the five-door grand tourer with a three-seater rear bench. The luggage compartment offers a base capacity of 535 litres, which can be increased to as much as 1,390 litres with the split rear seatbacks folded down. The long tailgate opens and closes electrically as standard, with a comfort key allowing it to be operated by foot gesture control.

All the best equipment: infotainment, assist systems, colours, and Audi connect

For the new performance models, Audi offers an extensive range of convenience, connectivity, and driver assistance equipment. The cars will help the driver out in a wide range of situations. With an array of assistance systems available which include lane change assist; park assist package (360-degree camera, intelligent park assist); tour assistance package (adaptive cruise control and assist); and Audi pre sense rear package.

The range of colours for the new models encompasses eight exterior paint finishes, including the two RS-specific shades of Nardo grey and Sebring black. The diverse Audi exclusive range offers additional possibilities for colour personalization. The performance models offer three optional exterior styling packages to enhance the sporty look. Front spoiler; side flaps in front; sill inlays, window slot trims; rear diffuser; and exterior mirror housings can all fall under one of three styling packages in matte aluminium (standard), black styling, or carbon/glossy black packages. Upon request, the Audi rings and RS logos at the front and rear are also available in gloss black for the black and carbon/glossy black styling packages.

The innovative and forward-thinking features of Audi connect are now available in the RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback. The technology delivers top-of-the-line connectivity. It features an embedded SIM, and the extensive Audi connect portfolio. The latter ranges from online traffic information, point of interest search, Navigation with satellite map and live weather updates. The Audi connect functionality also includes Car2X services which consists of standard safety and service features in the event of damage, breakdown or minor accidents. This functionality (through a built-in emergency button in the vehicle’s roof module) allows an emergency safety or service call to an Audi call centre to support in any event. Additional functionality, accessible through the MyAudi application, includes remote functions that network the new RS model with the driver’s smartphone. This includes car finder, remote lock/unlocking, speed and theft alerts, to mention a few.

The new Audi RS Q8 is the top model in the Q SUV product line. It combines the power of an RS model with the elegance of a premium coupé and the flexibility of an SUV. For the first time in the history of Audi RS models, Audi is offering a large SUV coupé with the genes of a true high-performance sports car on the road. With its biturbo V8 petrol engine, the Audi RS Q8 is the prestigious spearhead of the Audi RS model family and will officially go on sale in South Africa from 1 April 2021.

Maximum power and high efficiency: the engine

441 kW, 800 Nm of torque between 2,200 and 4,500 rpm – the 4.0 litre V8 in the new Audi RS Q8 delivers impressive RS performance. The turbocharged petrol engine with direct injection accelerates the large SUV coupé from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and to 200 km/h in 13.7 seconds. The 250 km/h top speed is electronically governed and can be optionally extended to 280 km/h.

Its 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 ignition sequence gives the 4.0 TFSI a sportily voluminous sound. As is typical for the Audi RS models, the dual exhaust system features an impressive oval tailpipe on each side. The driver can influence the engine’s sound via the Audi drive select system. The standard RS sport exhaust system with black tailpipe trims offers an even sportier sound.

The biturbo V8 in the new RS Q8 combines maximum performance and high efficiency. Its mild-hybrid system (MHEV) is based on a 48-volt main electrical system. The core of the MHEV is a belt alternator-starter connected to the crankshaft. During deceleration and braking, it can recover up to 12 kW of power and store it in the compact lithium-ion battery. If the driver takes their foot off the accelerator at a speed between 55 and 160 km/h, the drive management selects one of two solutions depending on the driving situation and the current setting of the Audi drive select dynamic handling system: The new RS Q8 recuperates or coasts for up to 40 seconds with the engine off. The belt alternator starter starts the engine within fractions of a second when the accelerator is actuated. MHEV technology allows for start/stop operation at a speed of up to 22 km/h. The interplay of the MHEV components improves ride comfort and also has the potential to reduce fuel consumption in everyday driving by as much as 0.8 litres per 100 kilometres.

Another efficiency module on board is the cylinder on demand (COD) system. At low to intermediate load and rpm in the upper gears, it deactivates cylinders 2, 3, 5 and 8 by switching off fuel injection and ignition and closing the intake and exhaust valves. The switching process takes just milliseconds, and is virtually imperceptible in the car. Configured as a planetary gear, the purely mechanical centre differential typically distributes the drive power in a 40:60 ratio to the front and rear axles. In the event of slip, more drive torque automatically goes to the axle with the better traction. Up to 70 percent can be directed to the front wheels and up to 85 percent to the rear wheels.

Ready for anything: the suspension

The five-link construction at the front and rear axles handle longitudinal and lateral forces separately. The linkages and the subframes are made largely of aluminium. The SUV coupé has a track of 1,692 millimetres up front and 1,696 millimetres at the rear.

The standard adaptive air suspension sport with controlled damping means the new RS Q8 is equally at home on the racetrack or an offroad trail. Its RS-specific damper tuning allows for a particularly broad spread between a setup biased toward comfort and an extremely sporty setup. Depending on driving situation and the driver’s wishes, the body’s ride height varies by up to 90 millimetres.

The optional electromechanical active roll stabilization (EAWS) minimize body roll during fast cornering. There is a compact electric motor between the two halves of the stabilizer on each of the two axles. When driving straight ahead, the two halves of the stabilizer are decoupled, which reduces body movement on uneven roads and also increases ride comfort. During cornering, however, the focus is on optimum roll compensation. The halves of the stabilizer are twisted in opposite directions, which significantly reduces vehicle lean while cornering. The electromechanical active roll stabilization is integrated in the 48-volt main electrical system and serves as a recuperating system. It can even recover power via the electric motors and thereby feed electrical energy back to the battery.

The standard all-wheel steering moves the rear wheels via a high-torque electric spindle drive and two track rods. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn up to 5 degrees opposite the direction of the front wheels for greater agility. At high speeds, they turn up to 1.5 degrees in the same direction as the front wheels to improve stability during fast lane changes.

With variable ground clearance, short overhangs, quattro permanent all-wheel drive and hill descent control, the new Audi RS Q8 can carry on calmly and confidently when paved roads end.

The driver can precisely influence the character of the RS Q8 via the Audi drive select dynamic handling system. There are eight profiles from which to choose: comfort, auto, dynamic, efficiency, allroad, offroad and the individually configurable RS-specific modes RS1 and RS2, which can be activated directly via the “RS-MODE” button on the steering wheel. Audi drive select affects such things as engine and transmission management, steering boost, the air suspension, all-wheel steering, engine sound and the characteristic of the automatic air conditioning.

The new RS Q8 comes standard with 23-inch aluminium wheels in a 5 Y-spoke rotor design with 295/35-series tyres. Behind the large wheels is an RS brake system with internally vented composite disks (420 millimetres) up front, 370 millimetres at the rear. Their 10-inch piston calipers are painted red as standard. The calipers of the optional RS ceramic brakes are available in blue and measure 440 millimetres up front and 370 millimetres at the rear.

Self-confident: the exterior

With its imposing octagonal Singleframe, the RS-specific radiator grille in high gloss black and the gloss black RS honeycomb grille, the new Audi RS Q8 sports a strikingly self-confident face. This combined with the solid side air inlets and the blade in high gloss black perfectly highlights the athletic character of the large SUV coupé from Audi.

The sloping roofline flows into the forward-canted D-pillars and rests against the quattro blisters above the wheel arches. RS-specific trim strips in the body colour widen the body by 10 millimetres up front and 5 millimetres in the rear, providing space for the more generous track. The continuous RS sills come standard in Manhattan grey, which makes the body appear even more athletic. An RS roof edge spoiler provides a striking finish at the top; design highlights closer to the road are the RS-specific rear skirt with a diffuser clip in high gloss black and the RS-typical oval tailpipes. The RS roof edge spoiler provides downforce on the rear axle for even balance at high speeds.

The new Audi RS Q8 is available in a choice of nine colours: one solid paint finish and eight metallic or pearl effect shades. The exterior mirror housings come standard with aluminium look and include black or carbon available as options. The aluminium and carbon styling packages set precise accents at the radiator grille, blades, diffuser clip and rear light strip (carbon only). In combination with the styling packages black and carbon, the Audi rings and RS logos at the front and rear are optionally available in black. The Audi exclusive program offers numerous additional customization options as well.

The standard tinted HD Matrix LED headlights have a three-dimensional daytime running lights signature with a digital character, similar to the LED tail lights. A light strip backed by a high-gloss black surface joins the rear lights, further emphasizing the wide stance. The HD Matrix LED headlights and the rear lights include dynamic turn signals and are showcased by an expressive RS-specific animation when the car is locked or unlocked.

Spacious sportiness: the interior

The interior of the new RS Q8 features a deliberately clean design. All elements beneath the black cloth headlining have a logical connection and harmonize with one another. The slim instrument panel and the strongly horizontal lines convey a feeling of spaciousness. The central element in the cockpit is the top MMI touch response display. With its black-panel look, it almost dissolves into a large, black surface when switched off.

Another primary design element is the wide, symmetrical console of the centre tunnel. Framing it are design elements in Aluminium Race, anthracite, which underscore the sporty character of the large SUV coupé.

Special RS displays in the Audi virtual cockpit and MMI display provide information on such things as tyre pressure, torque, output, temperature, lap times and g-forces. The shift light display prompts the driver to upshift when the rev limit is reached. The standard head-up display also offers several RS-specific graphics. The sport seats in Valcona leather with honeycomb pattern and RS fit perfectly into the athletic and premium ambiance of the large SUV coupé. In addition to a massage function, the RS sport seats are perforated to also provide ventilation. They come standard in black, with an option for cognac. The RS styling package includes red contrasting stitching on the knee pads, steering wheel rim, floor mats, selector lever and on the edges of the seat belts. The centre console, selector lever and steering wheel are covered in Alcantara while the upper side of the instrument panel including head-up display cover, door panels and armrests in the doors, are all covered in black Fine Nappa leather.

There is an RS logo on the steering wheel. The illuminated front door sill trims sport an RS Q8 logo. The fully perforated RS sport leather steering wheel flattened at the bottom (as part of the RS styling package) with shift paddles, also includes multifunction buttons. The driver can directly select the new Audi drive select modes RS1 and RS2 via the RS-Mode button. RS-specific displays then open automatically in the Audi virtual cockpit.

The RS Q8 also demonstrates its uncompromised everyday usability in the rear. A sliding three-seat rear bench is standard. With the seat backrests folded down, the luggage compartment under the power rear hatch holds up to 1,755 litres.

Connected for safety: the assist systems and infotainment

The new Audi RS Q8 supports the driver in many situations. The comprehensive range of standard assist systems includes such things as the adaptive cruise assist, efficiency assist, intersection assist, lane change warning including pre-sense rear, exit warning system and rear cross traffic assist and 360 degree cameras, head-up display also comes standard.

The services in the Audi connect portfolio offer customized information and intelligent assistance. The RS Q8 is equipped with the top infotainment system MMI navigation plus as standard, which exploits the full potential of Audi connect. The navigation system offers satellite images and takes predictions on the development of the traffic situation, weather, parking availability and point of interest search information into account.

If the car is driven by multiple drivers, up to six users can save their individual settings – from frequently selected destinations to their preferred lighting – in separate profiles. The data is uploaded to the customer’s myAudi account in the cloud and stored there for their access via the app. The car adjusts the individual settings when the driver’s door is opened. This convenient personalization feature comes as standard with the Audi RS Q8.

The Audi connect functionality also includes Car2X services which consists of standard safety and service features in the event of damage, breakdown or minor accidents. This functionality (through a built-in emergency button in the vehicle’s roof module) allows an emergency safety or service call to an Audi call centre to support in any event. Additional functionality, accessible through the MyAudi application, includes remote functions that network the RS Q8 with the driver’s smartphone. This includes car finder, remote lock/unlocking, speed and theft alerts, to mention a few.

Local pricing and availability

The new Audi RS Q8 will officially go on sale in South Africa from 1 April 2021 and is priced as follows (inclusive of all taxes) and comes standard with a five year Audi Freeway Plan:
